From Karma-Vibhanga, Analysis of Deeds and Their Results:

Short Life

Herein, what is the deed that leads to a short life? It is said: [1] Killing living beings. [2] Rejoicing in the killing of living beings. [3] Speaking in praise of the killing of living beings. [4] Greatly enjoying the death of enemies. [5] Encouraging the death of enemies. [6] Speaking in praise of the death of enemies. [7] Destroying what is in the womb. [8] Speaking in praise of destroying what is in the womb. [9] Causing a place to be established where many animals are killed – buffalos, cattle, pigs, chickens and so on – during the course of a sacrifice for sons, grandsons, or aiming at advantages for other people. [10] Destroying living beings while acting out of fear and fright.

Long Life

Herein, what is the deed that leads to a long life? It is said: [1] Ceasing from killing living beings. [2] Speaking in praise of ceasing from killing living beings. [3] Encouraging the ceasing from killing living beings. [4] Speaking in praise of ceasing from killing living beings. [5] The release of those due to be slaughtered, whether men, cattle, pigs, chickens and so on. [6] Giving fearlessness to frightened people, and having thoughts of compassion in the midst of people who are helpless. [7] Having thoughts of loving-kindness in the midst of people who are sick. [8] Giving food to others, whether young and old, and having thoughts of loving-kindness towards those who receive it. [9] What was said previously, on the side of wholesomeness, regarding the spectacle of war, etc. [10] Restoring broken monasteries, temples, and stūpas.

Dear all:
In light of this horrrible war that has been brewing, and due to Emmanuel Leidi and Gibson Anna's request, I recorded a transmission of Chatral Rimpoche's prayer to avert a Nuclear War. Please join me in reciting it.
You can find the PDF with the prayer (I joined it with attachement)

May all beings be happy!

According to G.I. Gurdieff, if human beings are lazy and make no effort to evolve spiritually, war is a method to extract spiritual effort and at least some form of spiritual consciousness from humanity.
This view is understandable in the buddhist theory of karma, as there are different kinds and levels of karma, and one of them is death proximate karma (maranāsaññā-kamma/karma). Death proximate karma is weighty karma. Normally it is difficult to be aware of death, but in the time of war it becomes a constant and spontaneus state of mind.

Gurdieff taught his Fourth Way in Paris during the years of German occupation. Katinka Hesselink has on her site a teaching of Gurdieff concerning the causes of war:

"'There was a question about War. How to stop wars? Wars cannot be stopped. War is the result of the slavery in which men live. Strctly speaking, men are not to blame for war. War is due to cosmic forces, to planetary influences. But in men there is no resistance whatever against these influences, and there cannot be any, because men are slaves. If they were Men and were capable of 'doing'(had Will), they would be able to resist these influences and refrain from killing one another.' 'But surely those who realize this can do something?'said the man who asked the question about war. 'If a sufficient number of men came to a definite conclusion that there should be no war, could they not influence others?'

'Those who dislike war have been trying to do so almost since the creation of the world' said G. 'And yet there has never been such a war as the present(the First World War). Wars are not decreasing, they are increasing and war cannot be stopped by ordinary means. All these theories about universal peace, about peace conferences, and so on, are again simply laziness and hypocrisy. Men do not want to think about themselves, do not want to work on themselves, but think of how to make other people do what they want. If a sufficient number of people who wanted to stop war really did gather together they would first of all begin by making war upon those who disagreed with them. And it is still more certain that they would make war on people who also want to stop wars but in another way. And so they would fight. Men are what they are and they cannot be different. War has many causes that are unknown to us. Some causes are in men themselves, others are outside them. One must begin with the causes that are in man himself. How he can be independent of the external influences of great cosmic forces when he is a slave of everything that surrounds him? He is controlled by everything around him. If he becomes free from things, he may then become free from planetary influences."

It's been said by some that the Golden Light Sutra is particularly effective against war.

Forgive me the petty vanity of posting my own home-made copy in a gold leaf sutra box.(sounds fancy but gold leaf is amazingly cheap...cost me about 40 USD to cover this box).

"One should cultivate contemplation in one’s foibles. The foibles are like fish, and contemplation is like fishing hooks. If there are no fish, then the fishing hooks have no use. The bigger the fish is, the better the result we will get. As long as the fishing hooks keep at it, all foibles will eventually be contained and controlled at will." -Zhiyi

Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch (German: Zum ewigen Frieden. Ein philosophischer Entwurf) is a 1795 book by German philosopher Immanuel Kant.

Image

Kant proposed a peace program to be implemented by governments. The "Preliminary Articles" described these steps that should be taken immediately, or with all deliberate speed:

1. "No secret treaty of peace shall be held valid in which there is tacitly reserved matter for a future war"
2. "No independent states, large or small, shall come under the dominion of another state by inheritance, exchange, purchase, or donation"
3. "Standing armies shall in time be totally abolished"
4. "National debts shall not be contracted with a view to the external friction of states"
5. "No state shall by force interfere with the constitution or government of another state"
6. "No state shall, during war, permit such acts of hostility which would make mutual confidence in the subsequent peace impossible: such are the employment of assassins (percussores), poisoners (venefici), breach of capitulation, and incitement to treason (perduellio) in the opposing state"
svaha
"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Oh! I absolutely love this! Sutra of Golden Light is one of my favorites and this box is an amazing idea! Definitely the right box for the wonderful wonderous scripture.
“Observing samaya involves to remain inseparable from the union of wisdom and compassion at all times, to sustain mindfulness, and to put into practice the guru’s instructions”. Garchen Rinpoche

For those who do virtuous actions,
goodness is what comes to pass.
For those who do non-virtuous actions,
that becomes suffering indeed.

The Attainment of Buddhaship

"Then he caused a great rain-storm, saying, ' With water will I overwhelm and drown him.' And through his mighty power, clouds of a hundred strata, and clouds of a thousand strata arose, and also the other different kinds. And these rained down, until the earth became gullied by the torrents of water which fell, and until the floods had risen over the tops of every forest-tree. But on coming to the Great Being, this mighty inundation was not able to wet his priestly robes as much as a dew-drop would have done.

Then he caused a shower of rocks, in which immense mountain-peaks flew smoking and flaming through the sky. But on reaching the Future Buddha they became celestial bouquets of flowers.

Then he caused a shower of weapons, in which single-edged, and double-edged swords, spears, and arrows flew smoking and flaming through the sky. But on reaching the Future Buddha they became celestial flowers.

Then he caused a shower of live coals, in which live coals as red as kimsuka flowers flew through the sky. But they scattered themselves at the Future Buddha's feet as a shower of celestial flowers.

Then he caused a shower of hot ashes, in which ashes that glowed like fire flew through the sky. But they fell at the Future Buddha's feet as sandal-wood powder.

Then he caused a shower of sand, in which very fine sand flew smoking and flaming through the sky. But it fell at the Future Buddha's feet as celestial flowers.

Then he caused a shower of mud, in which mud flew smoking and flaming through the sky. But it fell at the Future Buddha's feet as celestial ointment.

Then he caused a darkness, thinking, 'By this will I frighten Siddhartha, and drive him away.' And the darkness became fourfold, and very dense. But on reaching the Future Buddha it disappeared like darkness before the light of the sun.

Unable to restrain his fury, the enraged Mara now hurled his discus. But the Great Being reflected on the Ten Perfections, and the discus changed into a canopy of flowers, and remained suspended over his head.

Yet they say that this keen-edged discus, when at other times Mara hurled it in anger, would cut through solid stone pillars as if they had been the tips of bamboo shoots. But on this occasion it became a canopy of flowers.

Then the followers of Mara began hurling immense mountain-crags, saying, 'This will make him get up from his seat and flee.' But the Great Being kept his thoughts on the Ten Perfections, and the crags also became wreaths of flowers, and then fell to the ground."
