Re: Repentance practices

You already got some good answers to your query about repentance. As for the deeper question. Well, we are all flawed. Ignorant and deluded. So what? You can mull it all over in your head, rerun your favourite narratives about yourself, or you can just do something different! A time comes when we ge...

Re: Making sense of types of thought

Carl Jung discussed different modes of thinking, including directed logical thinking as a fairly late variant. I think it was in his book on Psychological Types (introvert vs extrovert, etc).

... As reported, the latest protests in Melbourne involve some building unionists, but also anti-vaxxers and 'professional' agitators. There's a lot more on that here - https://theconversation.com/its-almost-like-grooming-how-anti-vaxxers-conspiracy-theorists-and-the-far-right-came-together-over-co...

Re: Why should I show unconditional compassion instead of dominance?

If you really never experienced true kindness and unconditional love, then it may be hard to fathom that it is even possible. Though some people are born and are raised in absolute hellholes and still manage to develop into kind and compassionate human beings. I guess my point is that we are capable...

Re: So much Pain and Confusion.

It sounds like you are approaching becoming Buddhism as a belief, an ideology that makes sense to you, while Buddhism is a practice. All the teachings are there to help us with our practice and not beliefs to hold on to. Sometimes we learn of a teaching way too early, before we are able to use it pr...

Re: Choiceless awareness

Rick, I think a huge part of it is trust.

To trust in ourselves, that we can just drop this charade. Drop trying to be anything, sound like anything, attain anything, even drop the mind itself. Drop the whole kit and caboodle of consciousness and just be... choicelessly aware.

Re: What are your thoughts on DMT and the entities people claim to encounter?

Matt J mentioned Karmic Dreams, to me that this what most of this sounds like, from what little I can understand of such things. I read the OP from the link in detail. I have had enough weird experiences in Dream Yoga to say that Karmic dreams can seem quite real, and have been told this very thing...

Re: How to figure out the soluton to a koan

Perhaps it will muddy the waters to introduce yet another perspective. In the Seon tradition I practiced for 13 years in Australia, my teacher asked me a koan very spontaneously one day. This was sometime after I had given myself a koan, Case 20 from the Book of Equanimity - "Not knowing is the...

I find the assertions of the Heart Sutra to be a great starting point of investigating. "Form does not differ from emptiness". What does this mean to me right now? Right this moment, how does this apply? This cup next to me I grasp with my senses, with my hand, with my cognition, this form...

It sounds like this group is quite political and while an occasional mention of something political would not turn me off, I'd prefer the Dharma talks to be practice oriented. Practice oriented doesn't mean it is divorced from the current goings-on. On the contrary, none of it is really separate, bu...
