Buying Onenju in Europe
Buying Onenju in Europe
Hello,
BCA Bookstore has a wonderful site where they sell stuff like nenju
However, they won't ship to Germany or the UK
I'm looking for a European online store that sells nenju suitable for Jodo Shinshu practise
Is anyone aware of anything like this?
I would rather not order from Japan if I can order within Europe
Also, if anyone knows, it would be great if you can tell me where I can get a good statue or picture of Amitabha
Thank you

That is an example, yes, but I would prefer to not get from ebay or etsy if possible, but from a specialised store. If no one recommends one I will go with ebay or etsy
Re: Buying Onenju in Europe
That is actually the only one I can find that is shipped from Europe, but it says it's a small size, for women's hands. I have man size hands
To be or not to be, that is the question…

Re: Buying Onenju in Europe
You could do DIY nenju or you could maybe look at the SGI-Italia store. I know the Nichiren juzu look different than the Shin nenju, but if the style doesn't matter much to you, you could get that instead.

Why not? There are stores that use those platforms to sell their Buddhist goods. I found an antique nembutsu scroll on Etsy that is now on my wall receiving more respect than in a box somewhere.
I get my Jodo Shu ojuzu from the store Kyoto Asahiya.

Re: Buying Onenju in Europe
I ended up getting it shipped from Japan using Ebay. There were absolutely none in Europe, apart from one person who was selling small ones that he said were for women
To be or not to be, that is the question…
Re: Buying Onenju in Europe
Why should they be only for women and a no-no for men? I know a lot of male practitioner using very small beads and some female using bigger ones.
I don't care what a seller says.

Re: Buying Onenju in Europe
The seller said that the diameter of the actual nenju loop is very small and will only fit over small hands, and he said therefore it is "more likely more suitable for women".
They probably won't fit over my hands, simply. Why would I buy something that the seller says is too small for me?

Ok, I think I understand.bowsamic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:07 amThe seller said that the diameter of the actual nenju loop is very small and will only fit over small hands, and he said therefore it is "more likely more suitable for women".

If you think or even know some beads are too small for you f.e. 4 - 5 mm it is ok not buying this. I too wouldn't buy this.
I can use very, very small beads but not very big ones like ping-pong ball's size.
If the seller knows better than me.... I wouldn't trust him.

You are not understanding. It isn't the size of the beads themselves, but the length of the piece of string that the beads are onlelopa wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:58 pmOk, I think I understand.bowsamic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:07 amThe seller said that the diameter of the actual nenju loop is very small and will only fit over small hands, and he said therefore it is "more likely more suitable for women".

Yes, you are right!
I didn't understand that the problem is about the length.
Sorry.
