Differences between Taiwan Chan Schools??
Three large Buddhist schools came from Taiwan and seem to have a lot of followers/temples here in the US. Does anyone know the major differences between Dharma Drum, Fo Guang Shan and Chung Tai?

I'm not sure of the differences, but they appear to be very similar.
They are all vegetarian, at least for the monks and nuns. They have similar, if not identical doctrines and practice.
Fo Guang Shan states that it is an amalgam of all Eight Schools of Chinese Buddhism.
They all like big, beautiful temples.

FGS is the largest and is well known for the more social side of things providing a lot of activities for followers and being more community based.
Shengyen is most well known for being a scholar monk among Chinese Buddhists and his organisation does provide a lot more doctrinal education than FGS generally. In addition, Shengyen is more Chan focused than FGS which is more the ceremonial Chinese Buddhist style.
Chungtai is the smallest of the big Taiwanese organisations and is known for their focus on meditation.
