Buddha and Sadhus?

As Tantra often involves vows and samaya related to secret practice, this sub-forum has been created where Vajrayana practitioners can pose questions, and any of our members or staff can reply confidentially by PM.

Buddha and Sadhus?

Post by PadmaVonSamba »

Just as there are “Holy men”, sadhus, tantrikas, and others solely devoted to liberation in modern India, there were certainly many during the time of The Buddha. After all, he hung out with five of them, which even the Theravadins acknowledge.

In most recorded teachings, the Buddha is asked questions either by his immediate sangha, or by individuals identified as kings or farmers, or sometimes by celestial beings.

My question is, Are there any texts which mention the Buddha talking specifically to sadhus, practitioners of Hindu tantras, yogis, Brahmin priests, cave dwelling yogis and so on?

Wouldn’t you think that they would be lining up to question him on topics such as chakras or siddhis or various yogas?
EMPTIFUL.
An inward outlook produces outward insight.
