It would take a long time to answer those questions fully but: pelosi’s visit was the culmination of a massive political clusterf*ck, both domestically in the US and internationally, that left absolutely nobody getting what they wanted, Pelosi included, and left everyone in worse positions than they were before the visit. Quite how we all got into this mess deserves reflection once we get to a safe distance from it. But right now the main challenge is to make sure this doesn’t derail literally every other bilateral issue between the two countries, which currently it is.

And the US is absolutely interested in regime change in china, apart from a few short haituses in the Nixon and Clinton eras it always has been.

Given that China has become an Orwellian nightmare…

I’m not sure the US really should be in the business of regime change at all. In over half a century, it’s hard to point to an example of when a government the US doesn’t like has been replaced by a better government. Clinton took the position that you could influence behavior more effectively in the context of an active trade relationship - but it’s also debatable whether that was situation-specific, as he was negotiating chinas entry to the WTO, and that was only ever going to happen once.

A fairly well known Vajrayana teacher who I count as a friend went to one of the public talks.
He was astonished by DJKR’s theatricality and lack of depth..
He said, “ well he has his followers and I think they get from him what they can use”.
This was one of the last posts before the thread wandered waaaay off topic and it might as well stand as a summary of the previous however-many pages. Let's take a break.

If you want to continue the political discussion, feel free to start a new topic.
If you have anything particularly new to say about DJKR, ask us to re-open this thread.

:thanks:
