Re: Daily Laugh Thread
Here is something I posted over at DWT:
Here is an adaptation to the Zen story “Is that so?” I just created.
Oil was discovered and pumped from the ground, which led to the combustible gas engine and a very efficient means of transportation. Isn’t that great?
Zen master: Is that so?
Much later, the air became polluted, the air was filled with smog, the environment suffered. Isn’t that terrible?
Zen master: Is that so?
So, governments mandated more fuel-efficient cars and catalytic converters to make them pollute less. That’s good right?
Zen master: Is that so?
But then the air still got polluted as more and more people drove cars and families started buying 2, 3 or even more cars per household. Terrible?
Zen master: Is that so?
The electric car was finally invented and then mass produced. Isn’t that great?
Zen master: Is that so?
But then the electric grid couldn’t handle all the electric cars being charged and we had numerous black-outs. Government leaders told us to buy electric cars and now ask people to not charge their electric vehicles during peak usage. WTF?
Zen master: Is that so?
My electric bill for charging my electric cars ended up being as much or more than my fuel bill when I had gas cars, terrible right?
Zen master: Is that so?
I found out the electric plant near me producing electric energy was using coal, which pollutes the environment, what should I do?
Zen master: trade your electric car for a gas car, idiot.
It was from this thread where a member was asking if working in the oil & gas industry is wrong livelihood.

The above was mostly tongue-in-cheek and I actually have some green energy things (solar panels at one property, hybrid-gas-electric vehicle, plug-in electric vehicle). It's to show that things are not always as they seem. It's not necessarily oil&gas=bad; electric=good. It's more complicated than that. It is intention that matters. The oil and gas industry is simply supplying those utilities to us to make our lives run better with transportation, etc.
