25000 Prajñāpāramitā release

Discuss and learn about the traditional Mahayana scriptures, without assuming that any one school ‘owns’ the only correct interpretation.

25000 Prajñāpāramitā release

Post by Javierfv1212 »

84000 released Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikāprajñāpāramitā

https://read.84000.co/translation/toh9.html

It is one of the "Large" PP sutras, the only one to be fully translated aside from Conze's frankenstein translation.
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Pra ... %C5%ABtras

So this is a great moment in sutra translation in the West.

There will be an online event for it on June 4

It is quite impossible to find the Buddha anywhere other than in one's own mind.
A person who is ignorant of this may seek externally,
but how is it possible to find oneself through seeking anywhere other than in oneself?
Someone who seeks their own nature externally is like a fool who, giving a performance in the middle of a crowd, forgets who he is and then seeks everywhere else to find himself.
— Padmasambhava

It will be interesting to go through this when I have the time. Looks like about 1500 pages in the PDF, with some 40 pages of introduction and 360 pages of notes. I never went through all of Conze's translation because it just seemed a bit too haphazard.

Apart from the 8000 line sutra (the Tibetan version of which has permanent home on my shrine), the most important sutra of Mahāyāna.

I'm not disagreeing, but I'm curious what you base this statement on.

It has more commentaries written on it than any other sutra in the history of Buddhism, not to mention the prajñāpāramitā is the most definitive class of sutras of Mahāyāna.

Translations from Chinese of the Xuanzang and Kumarajiva versions of this are really overdue, I’m surprised no one has done it yet, along with Lokaksema’s 8000 line version.
