Index of existing translations?

Post by nyamlae »

Has anyone made an index of all the existing translations of Tibetan texts?

I'm imagining a chart with 4 columns -- the BDRC Work ID, the Tibetan title(s), the author, and the title(s) of any existing translations. It would be a really useful resource!

For example, if someone wanted to see all the different translations of the MMK, they could look up the Tibetan title or the title of one of its English translations, and then they would see a list of all the other translations as well as the BDRC Work ID to find the original text in Tibetan online.

There is such a database for translations of Chinese Buddhist texts : https://mbingenheimer.net/tools/bibls/transbibl.html
and I have also wondered if there wasn't one of Tibetan texts as well, or how feasible that would be?

That would be an extremely useful and practical thing to have, so of course it does not exist. Though in a years time, chatgpt will probably be able to generate one for you
