Is he:
1) being serious?
2) being sarcastic/facetious?
3) pointing out some general bias?

I can’t tell.

On the face of it, from my limited perspective, the post seems downright irresponsible.

And so his solution appears to be an attempt to appeal to a Fascist Chinese government? How does that make any sense.

He has this strange fantasy about the moral and cultural superiority of "Asians." It is all over his facebook feed. He is an Asian Chauvinist, and many self-hating westerners go along with it.

I have no authority to criticize, but I do notice that his followers tend not to think for themselves (on Facebook).

I keep wanting to say: “slurp slurp”.

To be fair - he does admit when he is wrong or “unskillful”. A quote from his Facebook page:

“I totally admit that many times, out of lack of experience with the modern world, I have done unskilful things. Once I wrote a critical post on Facebook that was actually aimed at lamas, rinpoches and male chauvinists. But many people read it as if I was demeaning females, which I never expected. We all have our individual sense of irony, and today more than ever, there is not much room for a sense of irony. I realized later that my post was very unskilful.”

DJK is fully aware that the criminal nations that could have stopped or adequately mitigated climate change, the USA, Russia, and China, have done effectively nothing. Russia and the US will do nothing at all until it is too late. China has made superficial attempts, primarily with large scale solar generation facilities. Of these three criminal climate nations (there are of course more than just three criminal climate nations but the capability to mitigate climate change follows Zipf's Law) only China is in a position to possibly take swift action in the narrowing window of the next 24 or so months in order to commit to climate change sufficiently to have a 50% chance of remaining below 1.5C over pre-industrial temperatures.

Asking GT to attempt to sway the Chinese what is called a "Hail Mary Pass" attempt in American football. And he's suggesting it becaue only the Chinese can take dramatic enough action.

After the Chinese have demonstrated massive change in a short time, then and only then, the backwards looking US *MIGHT* step up efforts (which they didn't when the criminal German governments proved prior to Putin's war that nearly 50% of true renewable energy was possible with electricity generation but still refused to phase out lignite coal and in fact began to import anthracite [after phasing out domestic anthracite mining] to say nothing of the continued use of oil) which might then cause some other nations to take more serious efforts and to support the Indians in climate mitigation (since this is an economic transformation project more than it is a tech transition).

Well, first of all China will never ever do such a thing. They know that if they did spend the billions or trillions in order to do so, that the other nations wouldn't follow along and would still simply continue to pollute anyway. The end result being that we would still be in the same crises once again very soon. They also know that the world population keeps growing and growing. The population of the world in 1960 was 3 billion. Now it is nearly 8. This trend is not stopping. Therefore, we will be heating the earth even more soon and even if China took this action now the result simply would not stop climate change. Furthermore, the less people that use fossil fuels (China in this case) the cheaper they get for everyone else to use (more supply) and we would likely see an increase in their usage, if China did this, at the very least among developing countries.

Furthermore, China are the greatest strategists on the planet, and they are slowly "buying up" much of SE Asia, Africa, etc. (often using debt traps and other underhanded means to accomplish this end), in order to expand their empire and acquire greater influence.

They play the long game. To them climate change will create opportunities for them to expand their empire more, as other countries suffer more and are less financially and militarily stable, etc.

DJKR should stick to teaching Buddhism.

Also, we have already crossed 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels.

While you can argue that for the older leadership of China, they no longer play that long game under their new emperor who love to act on his whim and provides no regular pattern and rationale behind his decisions.

Positions can be suddenly reversed and agreements can be broken without warning. He is pretty much unpredictable unless one is outdated about his daily health condition, mood swing, etc.

Perhaps, however, it appears to me that they are systematically trying to acquire as much land as possible. When I say they are "buying up" land in SE Asia, and all over Africa etc., I mean they are forcing governments into debt traps. For example, see this insightful video about Sri Lanka:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkVnb3SfZUA

The same tactics they have used in Sri Lanka have been used in many countries.

The astute observer will observe that not only does Sri Lanka still owe China but China now already completely controls more than one major Sri Lankan port, a major airport, etc. You will note that for their further debt, China will not allow them to restructure.

In the future, they will able to easily shut down ports for food importation, shut down air travel, etc. They can easily take over that country, and they will.

It would be quite an undertaking but they would then move from the category of being a climate criminal to being a climate hero. China is the major green-house gas polluter on an annual basis since they eclipsed even the US in 2006. China produces some 26% of all greenhouse gas emissions annually. The US is in 2nd place down to 11% annually although it was the major agent historically having single-handedly produced around 18-20% of the total since the industrial revolution.
The end result being that we would still be in the same crises once again very soon.
No. One the one hand you are correct - eliminating China as a major ghg producer doesn't eliminate the problem but buys considerable breathing room that would buy some more time.
Furthermore, the less people that use fossil fuels (China in this case) the cheaper they get for everyone else to use (more supply) and we would likely see an increase in their usage, if China did this, at the very least among developing countries.
Fossil fuel use has to be eliminated either by severely constraining it's use or pricing it correctly to account for all the damage it causes and pay for the total clean up or artificially place an exorbitant cost on it's use.
Also, we have already crossed 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels.
This is probably not the case yet although it would be difficult to refute. It is likely that this has already happened in specific geographic regions though. The general consensus is that we are at 1.2C-1.3C globally.

They use different baselines but none of them are from 1750 which is the actual pre-industrial baseline. Using that as a baseline, we have increased more than 1.5 C already.

I am having a lot of trouble loading a post. It seems to keep defaulting back to an old post that was deleted before. Is it my browser?
