Hip regimen for fixing meditation ouchies

I’ve been practicing more lately and it’s screwing up my hips, I am fairly physically active still in the martial arts. The combination of those movements with lots of sitting lately is giving me “dancers hip” worse than I’ve ever had it before.

Anyone have a good regimen or routine for working out the rigors of seated meditation on the hips?

Btw I am 46 so I cannot rely on things to just get better, but I want to keep practicing at the amount I am.

It's an old article, but I have found it useful: Growing Up a Lotus. For my body, it's most effective to do after doing a bout of exercise (running, cycling, etc.) However it's done, it's important to be very warmed up before doing these. And, I would be super careful with number 3!

Also, this one is my favorite pose: How to Do Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) in Yoga. This gets done after every workout.

Gomukhasana - the cow face pose.
You could skip the upper part if you like, but the lower part has a good circuitry.
stimulating blood flow and easing stiffness from lower parts of the body.
I'm too fat to do it exactly because of a hip thing and a busted knee, but I would love to sit in it.

Thanks all, yeah I think the cow face pose is what I’ll try, so far the only thing that has worked is the ‘Thai sit’ pose /stretch which is similar.

Lucky me I’m home from work with Pink eye, so I can it out today lol.

I could soothen hip pain by doing such exercises.



There are tons of such videos, this is just an example. Maybe you can find one that is especially helpful for you.

I just performed something like this a few times and the pain disappeared.
