21 Tara's - which is Ekajatis prayer?

Post by jake5521 »

Hello all, was just wondering who Ekajati was inside the 21 Tara's prayer. I know she is one of the blue ones?

I looked through the commentary on the Praises to the 21 Taras by the Khenpo Brothers, which has an extensive description of each of the 21, and I could not find mention of Ekajati anywhere, though a google search did say what you said. She may not be listed among the 21. Or ... could the specific descriptions of the 21 Taras differ in different lineages?

How do you "know"?

None of the 21 Tara match Ekajati's description.

There are several systems of the 21 Taras and I am pretty sure that I read that one of her forms are connected with Ekajati. However I can't find that anywhere now. The only thing that turns up is Māhacīnatārā and she don't appear in any of the systems you can find online which is mainly Atisha's system and the terma versions by Jigme Lingpa and Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa. I think the Dzongsar Khyentse's paintings below is based on Suryagupta's system.

Khadiravani Tara appeared to Nagarjuna accompanied by Ekajati and Marichi.

I'm just guessing but I would not have expected for Ekajati to appear in the 21 Taras, as they represent the outer cycle of Tara and Ekajatic represents the most secret aspect. Different appearances, but may be related for sure. Like one doesn't see Troma Nakmo in the 21 Taras... does one?

If your pure vision is fine tuned enough, you can see Troma Nagmo in every feminine appearance...

IIRC there is a secret blue wrathful Tara that appears in some non-terma cycles. I will look up the details. Not counted in any of the lists of 21 - but also not associated with Ekajati
