Greetings from Wales

Post by Seicho »

Hello there,

I've been snooping around for some time now and decided it was time to actually register on the site.
Originally I'm from Denmark but I now live in Wales. In September 2013 I started a Buddhist practice/meditation group as there's nothing like this around here at all, and I so miss my Danish Tendai sangha!

Oh, that's very good news. If I'm reading the map correctly, you're within three hours by car of Ganshin's temple in Hampshire. So close!

Yes!!! Thank you for making me realise that we actually have a car now so we can go there, ha ha ha! How did I not make that connection until now? Been meaning to visit the English sangha, but the transportation has been a problem. Up until now!

Ah Wales, my favorite place! I have lived there off and on since 1985, got married in Haverfordwest and went to the University of Aberystwyth for a master's degree in heritage studies. Always a longing to return.
There is a Tibetan sangha in Bangor, if that's of interest.

Welcome, Seicho!

That's cool that you practice Tendai. Maybe you can bring a bit more activity to our Tendai subforum.

Loads. .....it goes back to when property prices were lower in Wales. (no longer the case btw )
Shenpen Hookham has her centre there too. As well as several Triratna places.
Many of my ancestors are buried on the Gower. There is a whole graveyard of Ellis's

Welcome Seicho.

hi seicho, welcome, nice pic, i like it a lot
If the thought of demons
Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

Thank you all for the very warm welcome :D

I haven't visited any of the Buddhist centres in Wales, but I'm hoping I'll be able to at some point. We've been a bit housebound due to transportation issues here in the Upper Rhondda, and the car we have access to seems to be a petroloholic (we're talking old tank like Volvo here).

I'm currently in the process of finding a new meeting place for the sangha as my living room isn't too practical any longer (ice cream truck stops outside my window at least twice when the group meets, we have four cats we need to herd around meaning my husband can't take part in the meetings etc etc etc). Actually I'm trying to find TWO meeting places  People where I live are too broke to go down the valley to meet up (which is why I wanted to start it locally), and the people from a bit down the valley are too broke to come to up here so it seems I'm going to have to come to them :)
