Great living female lamas

It wasn't until recently that I found out who Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche is. For those of you who don't know who she is, she is a basically a great Nyingma rinpoche who is also a Kagyu tulku who is the reincarnation of the 15th Karmapa's consort, and she works tirelessly teaching dharma and doing charitable activities around the world.

Anyway, I felt embarrassed that I hadn't heard of her before. It made me think that there are probably other great female lamas out there who are not widely known.

Please post info about any other great living female lamas.

I have some great footage I shot of HE Khandro Rinpoche for a documentary we're working on. I'll ask the producers if I can post a little bit. But I might have to wait until it's been finished. If she comes anywhere near where you are, make sure you hear her teach. She truly is a great teacher.

I also just heard of her as well, since a friend of mine linked me to her live teaching the other day. Boy, does she sure get stuff spot on! She would be a wonderful guru to have. Perhaps I'll seek her out someday to be mine!

Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche has also written a fine book, This Precious Life: Tibetan Buddhist Teachings on the Path to Enlightenment. I heartily recommend it.

She's taught at Naropa since '92 and translates Tibetan texts. She also leads a small community of Green Tara practitioners.

I have several friends who have heard her teach and they think very highly of Lama-la. I'm looking forward to seeing her.

Theres also Lama Tsultrim Allione (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsultrim_Allione" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) who founded the Tara Mandala center near Pagosa Springs, CO and is thought to be an emanation of Machig Labdron. Although I've never heard her teach, she's well respected in Colorado Buddhist circles and has a sizeable following.

Someone I know pointed out that her teachings are actually flawless. They really are - there's not a single, tiny thing that could improve them. EVERYTHING I have heard from her is perfect, precise dharma and very transformative. There's a lot of talk about dakinis in Tibetan Buddhism, but Khandro Rinpoche actually is one*.

*a dakini with a razor sharp knife, by the way

I'd include Chagdud Khandro, as well as many women that Chagdud Rinpoche
ordained as yogini lamas, at least one of which is a Tulku. There's also Lama
Yeshe Wangmo, ordained by Lama Tharchin Rinpoche.

Although, consistent with tradition, none of them would agree to being called
"great." Humility, among other qualities makes them so.

Yes, Lama Tsering Everest was Chagdud Tulku's translator for some time and a wonderful, amazing teacher. I was very happy to be able to take refuge with her.
