The final door

Post by FiveSkandhas »

Billions of years from now.

It is very dark, and every corner of the Six Worlds is wrapped in silence.

The footsteps of Ksitigarbha and the last sinner echo in the gloom, the last sounds of all.

In the vast darkness, there is a small light up ahead -- the last lamp above the last door.

Ksitigarbha gently pushes the last sinner through the door. Then he slowly looks around. Satisfied, the Bodhisattva nods to himself. He extinguishes the lamp, walks through the door himself for the first time, and closes it for the last.

While the empty and darkened Six Worlds wait in profound hush, there is finally not a single being on either side of the door.

But -- maybe -- hasn't that always been the case?
"One should cultivate contemplation in one’s foibles. The foibles are like fish, and contemplation is like fishing hooks. If there are no fish, then the fishing hooks have no use. The bigger the fish is, the better the result we will get. As long as the fishing hooks keep at it, all foibles will eventually be contained and controlled at will." -Zhiyi

"Just be kind." -Atisha
