Poem "Like I am found"

Post by cjdevries »

I was pretty inspired by the poets at the 2020 Collective Trauma Summit. www.collectivetraumasummit.com (it's free) I wrote this after hearing a conversation between two poets.

“Like I am found”

I’m trying to connect with you,
But I don’t know where to start
I feel alienated from you,
Though I know it’s due to my own actions

Can you forgive me?
Can you show me how to be better?
Can we connect again?

Because you are a part of me
And I’m a part of you

So please free me from this prison of my own making
Build me a home within your sacred embrace

I’m knocking at your door
Because I need to come in
I need to come in so that I can remember what it feels like
To breathe easily,
To love easily,
And to live in such a way
that I am no longer grasping after things

I need to live like all the things I couldn’t have
Were never needed anyway,
Like all my failures are just passing clouds
Within a sunny, clear, blue sky

I need to live like I am found
"Please call me by my true names so I can wake up; so the door of my heart can be left open: the door of compassion." -Thich Nhat Hanh

"Ask: what's needed of you" -Akong Rinpoche

"Love never claims, it ever gives. Love ever suffers, never resents, never revenges itself." -Gandhi

Here are a few other poems I wrote:

Matters
Willful hatred?
How can you hate what you don’t understand?
When you begin to understand, hatred disperses
Compassion begets order?
“It can’t be,” you say
You still don’t believe me
Maybe you would in another time,
in another place

People everywhere are practicing a way of unity
But I understand if you’re not ready
change is not easy
It takes letting go of ways we’ve grown accustomed

If you’re not ready now, maybe you will be someday soon
But just remember that no matter what,
your life, your world matters too.

Forgiving Someone
There is nothing easy about forgiving someone
Who has hurt you so much
Especially if you want to really mean it
And even if you already do

Because a part of you still remembers the hurt
Like it were still fresh
And as if it were all that persons fault

But usually, as we get older
We see more clearly how easy it is to wound another
And we see also how we have hurt others too

When we make time to forgive
We may have to remember all the good things
That have happened between us
And remember again that this person is human

And human is a difficult thing
Human means that we are imperfect
And that many things slip through our grasp
And often it means we make the wrong decision

Instead of the right.

And it is okay to be imperfect,
To make the wrong decision
When we see that someone else can too without meaning it
(And we acknowledge it)
Forgiveness can come in from that wisdom
And we can really mean it, and we can really forgive

Uncle and Nephew, Q&A
Q Which way is home uncle?
A Any way; go where you choose
Q But which way is better?
A The way that calls you is better.
It is the way of lesser resistance
Q Is one way faster than another?
A Perhaps, but it’s unlikely that you’ll know
Until you’ve tried a few different ways
Q Can I follow your way?
A No, that is the only rule.
You must walk your own way.
Nephew, don’t be scared,
You are right on track!

Day and Night
All day and night my ego screamed for this and that,
Everything it didn’t have

Thinking of goals that had no meaning
And dreams that had no end

Then, I found that the only goal worth pursuing
is freedom from wanting

and that the only dream worth pursuing
is that which frees the heart

Don’t fly
Don’t fly,
walk gently into beingness.
forget everything unnecessary.
