Chöd (literally to ‘sever’ or ‘cut through’) is a thousand-year-old Tibetan Buddhist practice for meeting and engaging fears and fixations through the practice of compassion and generosity. Visualizing an offering of our own body to that which would seemingly destroy us, we practice releasing our grasp on the egoic self and opening to our inherent freedom, compassion and wisdom. The practice, sung in beautiful melodies and accompanied by a drum and bell, has its roots in shamanic traditions and was often traditionally performed as a healing practice. In this retreat, you will learn a Chöd practice written by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and explore the teachings that underlie this powerful tradition.

This retreat will be taught by Lopon Charlotte Rotterdam and Pieter Oosthuizun, Authorized Teachers under Lama Tsultrim Allione of Tara Mandala Retreat Center, Colorado (bios below). It is hosted by the Tara Mandala Los Angeles satellite sangha and will be held at the beautiful Pure Land Farms, a Tibetan medicine and meditation center. This retreat does count as a CNNR Chod retreat for participants in Tara Mandala's Magyu program.

Sessions will be as follows:
Friday January 10th, 11am - 6pm
Saturday January 11th, 9am - 5pm
Sunday January 12th, 9am - 4pm
The retreat fee of $235 includes teacher dana. An option to purchase lunches for an additional fee will be available upon request closer to the retreat start (all others please bring bag lunches.) This is not a residential retreat, but three residential options are available, please inquire if interested:

A small number of individuals may sleep in a dormitory style room at Pure Land Farms Friday and Saturday night, the cost for both nights will be $100

Members of the Tara Mandala Satellite Sangha will home-host individuals upon request (please note most are located 45-60 minutes away from the center and will be commuting daily.)
Hotel accomodations are available in the area.
Please bring a Chöd drum and a bell to the retreat (recommendations on where to buy these will be given at registration).
All questions may be directed to Lisa Erickson at [email protected].
