This guy I know found this manuscript in a little box...
At first some people thought it was written in Sanskrit, others Bhutanese, but some web users have pointed out it is Tibetan, and then pointed me towards this forum.
Can anyone help us to translate what it says? Its been nearly a month and our curiosity increases every day!

Re: Found this Tibetan manuscript in a little box...
Update: Someone in Reddit has apparently identified it as part of the 'Golden Light Sutra'
https://www.reddit.com/r/Buddhism/comme ... le/cy9jeou
...but not sure of exactly which part, since apparently it has both Tibetan and also 'Tibetanized' Sanskrit.
Anyway this clue may help anyone willing to help with translating to figure out exactly what the manuscript says

Here's a link to both Tibetan and English versions of the Golden Light Sutra http://fpmt.org/education/teachings/sut ... /download/ Since the poster on reddit has checked with their teacher the information likely to be accurate.

BTW, the box looks like a gau. Here's one description of a gau's purpose http://www.garudashop.com/Tibetan_Jewellery_s/91.htm
Knowing this gives you some context to the text inside.

This is really cool. Try posting it on Vajracakra as well.

It starts with an homage to the Buddha Sacred Golden Light; whether this implies Golden Light Sutra I don't know. Most of the text is dharani/ mantra aimed at repelling humans, non-humans, gyalpo demons, etc. Something that would indeed logically be worn in a gau.
Of course, by opening it, your friend released a plague of evil spirits on the world.
Just kidding; no one would notice one more plague anyway.

This is a page from a dhāraṇī called The Sound of the Drum of the Golden Light (gser 'od rnga sgra) from the Collection of Dhāraṇīs (gzungs 'dus). As others have indicated, it is found also in the Golden Light Sutra.

I would assume that the great power to protect the wearer from all manner of obstacles would only apply to the person who had the gau and its contents blessed by their lama because the faith of the wearer and their connection to the teacher is critical.
However, the recitation of the dharani by the new owner would seem to be ok given it is derived from a sutra.
