pronunciation of refuge name

Post by chokyi lodro »

When I took Refuge a long time ago I was given the name

ཀརྨ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་ (karma chos kyi blo gros)

The first word I understand, and doesn't confuse me. But the rest I have seen written as Choji Lodro, but also Chökyi Lodrö.

My questions are: how is the ji or kyi pronounced (kyi)? And the umlauted ö (chos, gros), is it like German/Swedish?

I have heard the umlaut ignored, lightly enunciated, as well as, over enunciated.
Not a linguist, but something like Ch oer ki (like chur key) and I have heard Cho ki (like Cho key).

The ji vs kyi difference is one of dialect, I believe the former is Khampa while latter is Central.
