Online Chöd programs and classes

Post by Varis »

Can we gather a list of Chöd programs and classes that are online?
Kagyu/Gelug/Nyingma, doesn't matter as long as it focuses on Chöd.

I'm aware of Chöying Khandro's program, are there any others?

Tara Mandala offer an online course of chod. It is a simple and deep sadhana

Recently, https://ganden.ch/ offered chod retreat online (shiwa lambsab, gelug tradition). I really loved it.

Regarding the retreat at Ganden. What were the commitments? Can you share more about it? I see they have another one coming up I was thinking about doing. I’d love to hear more about your experience.

The Dzogchen Community has a decent sized group that practices Chod together daily on zoom.

For the Shiwa chod, doing the practice every two weeks. There is a long and short sadhana.

That being said, i never felt pression of any sort. It is more presented - it is my feeling - as a good advise to get the most of this deep practice. If you follow this advise you are in fact giving a gift to yourself.

The lama has a deep knowledge, and is a specialist of chod.

I do not regret doing online retreat with Ganden. In fact i feel it was a great choice to connect with them.

If you need more information, pm me, i will do my best to help you.

For Shiwa Lamsab Chöd the commitments aren't that heavy, you have to practice twice a month and there's some vows according to Machig Labdron which include offering tsog. Kalkha Damtsig Dorje recommended that you practice the long and medium sadhanas of Jamyang Shepa.

Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche is an incredible non-sectarian Chöd master who is very kind and answers questions you email via his attendant.

It appears the next retreat has a HYT commitment as well.

I am a Nyingma practitioner but I am interested in Chod and there aren’t any places in Arizona. I see they are Gelug, and I would have to make that HYT commitment as well. I do have Atiyoga empowerment. Any recommendations here on if I should proceed? They did give me authorization to attend if I want to.

It's really up to you if you think you can maintain the commitments set by the Vajra master. The Shiwa Lamsab Chöd lineage doesn't go through Pabongkha Rinpoche so you wouldn't have to worry in that regard.

If you are worried about the commitments and so on Chöd is in the terma lineages.

Lama Repa Dorje Odzer just did a chöd empowerment last week, I'm devastated that I missed it due to illness. Tara Mandala does them often but they're very expensive and I don't know anyone who's been approved for a scholarship. Lama Pema Khandro is currently doing a Troma Nagmo retreat, which has a lung but not the full empowerment/Wang. It's still a wonderful retreat however.

I hope it's okay to reply here since the thread is less than six months old.

That's for sure.

But possibly, still if this thread gets older it could stay open as long as the purpose of only being a list will be maintained.
The only problem with necroed topics is: as soon as it comes to discussion between long ago past and present people now, complete confusion is the result.
And spam posters, who only write one post ever, mostly like to dig up ancient topics. IDK why.

Okay, thanks for reading. :focus:

I couldn't agree more. For anyone interested, I recommend getting his book "The Profound Heart Essence" (https://ganden.ch/shop/?lang=en). It conveys Lodrö Rinpoche's profound understanding very well, and is peppered with nuggets of Chöd wisdom I have not seen elsewhere.

Here is another online Chod gathering. It was also posted in the Wandering Chod thread, and I thought it might be useful to post it here too.

His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche has a chöd empowerment available on YouTube and has given permission for anyone who wishes to to receive empowerment via his publicly available videos

Sarva Mangalam.
Chöd practice with Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche. Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche was a tulku of Nudan Dorje's incarnation lineage. Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche was also considered as a tulku of Rigdzin Godem's son Namgyal Gonpo, Machig Labdröns son Gyalwa Thondup, and an emanation of the body of Khyechung Lotsawa, the speech of Nanam Dorje Dudjom, and the mind of Padmasambhava.
