David Bowie wrote this shortly before he died. It may be one of the best and most raw pop songs about death ever.

"One should cultivate contemplation in one’s foibles. The foibles are like fish, and contemplation is like fishing hooks. If there are no fish, then the fishing hooks have no use. The bigger the fish is, the better the result we will get. As long as the fishing hooks keep at it, all foibles will eventually be contained and controlled at will." -Zhiyi

"A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" by Dame Vera Lynn.

.

The moon that lingered over London town;
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown.
How could he know we two were so in love,
The whole darn world seemed upside down.
The streets of town were paved with stars,
It was such a romantic affair,
And as we kissed and said goodnight,
A nightingale sang In Berkley Square.
It must have been different in the 1940's. When I once had a rendez-vous with a loved one in Berkeley Square there were no nightingales serenading us First we nearly got run over by a motorcycle courier taking a short-cut across the green and then we were shat on by a pigeon.

Saw Otis perform this song at American University in late 1967. Left it all on stage. :good:

"Dite a Laura che l'amo" by Michele Maisano

.

This is the 1967 Italian version of "Tell Laura I Love Her".

I have mixed feelings about this version. On the one hand, there's no doubt Michele can sing much better than Ray Peterson. On the other hand, the lyrics have been altered completely! It's not just that Tommy has been changed into Tony, but that the entire storyline of the original has been ditched. In fact there's no longer really any story at all.

Tony e Laura si amavano
E lui voleva dare a lei
Oltre l'amore
Le cose che
La vita aveva negato a lui
Con la chitarra e con il suo amor
Una canzone le dedico
In un teatro si presento
La loro storia
A tutti voi canto
Dite a Laura che l'amo
E che devo partire
Ma sei mi aspetterà
Quel giorno sarà
Per sempre mia
E la fortuna sorrise a lui
Gente applausi chilometri
Ma la fatica non sentiva mai
Perché pensava sempre a lei
Ma una notte correndo da lei
Ad una curva il destino lo fermo
E quando lo trovarono
Lui mormoro fino all'ultimo cosi
Dite a Laura che l'amo
Non le dite che soffro
Stasera tarderò
Ma appena potrò ritornerò
Ora Laura e sola
Ma non lo può dimenticar
La sua voce e ancora la
E con quel disco
Lui sempre le dirà
Dite a Laura che l'amo
E che devo partire
Ma se mi aspetterà
Quel giorno sarà
Per sempre mia
Dite a Laura che l'amo
Dite a Laura che l'amo
Dite a Laura che l'amo

Jilted John - "Gordon is a Moron".

Actually the song's correct title is also "Jilted John", but most Jilted John fans refer to it by its chorus:

But I know he's a moron
Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a mo-or-on
Gordon is a mor-or-or-on

Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
