Re-Incarnation? Samsara

Post by Sammã-sambodhi »

"When the Buddha Shakyamuni passed into extinction, the term used was extinction, not death or died. This is because the fundamental teaching of life contains a state defined as Samsara; a temporary realm of the cycles of birth/death. This is the definition of moment-to-moment birth/death cycles as the perceptive timeline of Samsaric conditioned existence. There is nothing "beyond" or "before" or "after". There is no "soul" or "self" or any thing, remember the teaching of "Impermanence" and dependent origination."

I watched this video by Sifu Sylvain Chamberlain of 'Threefold Lotus Kwoon', (independent) who practices & teaches Lotus Sutra Buddhism revealed by Shakyamuni Buddha and taught by Bodhisattva Nichiren Shonin from the latter day of the Law (Dharma Ending Age), outside the realm and biases of Nichiren Buddhist sects.

Sifu Sylvain covers the topic of re-incarnation & samsara from the perspective of the Lotus Sutra, scholarship of other discourses and cultural biases. I figure this video may offer some interesting insights to all practitioners of Buddhism whether the resonate with you, or not because it touches on the idea of fundamental 'belief system' commonly taught and tries to clear up what may in fact appear to be misinterpretation in it's understanding, or origination altogether.

Some key questions to be pondered in respect to the video topic are; Is the concept of re-incarnation understood in todays society actually what Shakyamuni Buddha taught? Is the concept even in line with what true Buddhism addresses? Does magical thinking and mysticism exist in Buddhism at all, or were they simply Expedient Means?
....as a method used by the Buddha for teaching and instructing living beings -- explained by Shakyamuni in the Lotus Sutra as to how all his teachings were, Expedient Means, provisional and not the True teaching, so to discard them - not accepting a single verse or phrase and to only practice the Lotus Sutra to attain Buddhahood, which was his whole purpose from the outset.

The Tathagata knows and sees the appearance
of the Three Worlds in accordance with reality:
there is no Birth-and-Death,
whether backsliding or emerging;
likewise there is neither existence in the world
nor extinction; they are not real; they are not void,
they are not thus; they are not different.
It is not as the Three Worlds
see the Three Worlds. In such a matter as this
the Tathagata sees clearly
and is without error. -- Lotus Sutra Chapter 16 [Juryo-hon]
