Did Shinran and Nichiren ever meet?

Post by KiwiNFLFan »

Does anyone know if Shinran ever met Nichiren? They were alive at the same time and both studied on Mt Hiei. Is there any record of them ever meeting and discussing/debating Pure Land vs Lotus Sutra Buddhism?

Actually, they were both in the Kanto region at the same time as well, but Shinran was north in the countryside. There's no records of Nichiren going up in that direction. He stayed close to the coast for the most part, between modern day Shizuoka, Kamakura, and Chiba.

No evidence that they met or even knew of each other. Keep in mind, neither of them were who they've since become. Nichiren and Dogen may have met though. Don't recall where I read that.
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.
