Dear Foristas,

are there any rules about the kind of drum in the Ngagong or Serkyem? Is it possible to use a single sided drum like these shamanic drums, where you hold the drum by the cross in the drum?
I didn't find anything in the books about it.

I know in another lineage the guru told to only use a double sided drum.

With kind regards

Four Methods of Development

Post by TocharianB »

I have some questions about adapting the instructions in the Four Methods of Development for practicality during the year of impediment. Rinpoche may have told me to work with circumstances, or he'd have a precise procedure. Please PM me if you've used the instructions in the booklet practically. Thanks!

it is better not to. there is a precise way of beating it, doing it wrong causes wrong results. you need a two sided drum with a stick where to grab it. it doesn't need to be pretty or fancy, it is just for doing precise sounds.

My guess is that it will be a group practice for those who have already received the transmission.

There will likely be someone leading the practice, but not actually giving transmission (?)

They are using the transmission text for Garab Dorje, which is a bit weird.

IIRC we've done it like that before, when Rinpoche was ill I think.

Yeah, I think so. Perhaps the part with the introduction was left out.

if you mean the webcast, the silent parts were when the mantra was being whispered under the breath.

Our Ödzer Chenma comes from anuyoga transmission, right?
