On the note of sponsoring, you can actually sponsor 100,000 butter lamp offerings at https://mahasiddha.org/prayers/index.php (option 91), but it costs $12,400.

Was in Dzogchen, I moved it because of a user report stating it had nothing to do with Dzogchen. I'd be glad to move it back if its appropriate there.

A quick search brought up a set of 900 tea light candles for $50. You could probably get several sessions of offering out of them. I don't know what the burn time is like, but you'd probably be well under $1k by the time you offered them the target number of times.
Happy Pride month to my queer dharma siblings!

I think that it would likely be seen by more folks there. Which would be nice for the support. Also, the reason I posted it there is because my Dzogchen lineage holder lama told me to light the 100,000 candles in the first place haha. Seems that it actually has something or other to do with Dzogchen.

yah I saw the 900 for 50 deal there too and that's where i'm starting. i didn't think of offering the same candle multiple times though. i think i'm supposed to get them done is some sort of a timely manner though so i want to find a way to burn a lot of them at once in addition to doing a few every day.Hazel wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:34 am A quick search brought up a set of 900 tea light candles for $50. Moved topic back to Dzogchen, hopefully this will conclude the moves- I do beg pardon for all the churn.

Out of curiosity, why are you required to do this? What is the practice?
"One should cultivate contemplation in one’s foibles. The foibles are like fish, and contemplation is like fishing hooks. If there are no fish, then the fishing hooks have no use. The bigger the fish is, the better the result we will get. As long as the fishing hooks keep at it, all foibles will eventually be contained and controlled at will." -Zhiyi

Re: 100,000 candles??
Maybe you can light 100 candles and chant a light offering prayer 100 times. That makes 10000 offering.
Then you do it 10 times and you made your 100000 offerings.
That being said, if you focus on number you will be blessed by numbers.
It is better to focus on intention so as to make one candle brighter than 100 000 candles.

Talk to a monastery to help you do this. Don't light so many tea lights at home, it can be very dangerous.

I think this is a very ancient kind of practice.FiveSkandhas wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 2:09 am Out of curiosity, why are you required to do this? What is the practice?

I still highly recommend community work as the method for this. That way, everyone gets benefits!

Butter lamps.
Been there done that... it’s all about devotion not numbers. Nothing to do with ancient anything... time has no meaning in this regard.
And it’s not about you.
Get it done

Re: 100,000 candles??
UPDATE:
With permission from my lama, I have made a gofundme to generate money for large offerings in addition to smaller daily offerings which I will do in my own daily practice with my own money.
Question: Is it okay to post a link to my new gofundme here? would it be against some rule to make a separate thread about it?
I'm really excited about this solution and I think it could work really well, as well as directly get some other practitioners in on the merit.

There is a forum for seeking donations for Dharma purposes https://www.dharmawheel.net/viewforum.php?f=114KonchogUrgyenNyima wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 6:43 am UPDATE:

There is also theofferingbowl.com as an alternative to GoFundMe. That seems to be what I see in that subforum.
