Kye ma!
The river of continuity is marked by impermanence.
Ceaseless flowing of appearance.
Beautiful and repulsive.
The dance of life and death is a display of the vast expanse.
With gratitude the watcher and the watched pass through the barrier of duality.

It's hard to answer such a question as you don't say what form these obstructions take, which empowerments you have, nor if you have access to a Guru who could advise you.

I think this may be a thread better placed in 'Tantra Talk' ?

As Yeshe says, there are many methods of removing obstacles. I've even developed a few of my own....

Thanks all. Currently no access to main Lama (he is stuck in Tibet), except to CNN through webcasts.

Obstacles take the form of general lack of retreat opportunity and moving forward with practice. Hope that helps.

So, what would you suggest?

Every one Nangwa advised of. I would also add Green Tara.

And Sang and Serkyem offerings, Simhamukha, or in some cases Soul Retrieval, Vajra Armor, Red Garuda, or Black Manjushri.

Oh and as Mr. G also mentioned of course Green Tara, and Odzer Chenma.

Also, isn't there a Buddhist Ganesha Yidam (the Remover of Obstacles) ?

Wow, lots of suggestions. So, how to proceed? Just start practicing as much as I can or what?

Seems to me a round of Green Tara mantras is a start, maybe do a puja if you have the sadhana handy.

Next up, a little research, get your empowerments sorted out, and on to higher practices. Maybe get some friends to do mantras or pujas for you, too.

Open a word document. List and then look up every name that people have listed. If one strikes you pick that one. Otherwise, cross them off your list based on lack of personal connection (feeling) and unavailability of empowerment. Then practice the only one left. Remember that it's better to practice one deity than several.

Print out a high quality image of the deity and glue it on a piece of cardboard (If you want: http://www.fpmt.org/teachers/zopa/advic ... n_lttr.pdf) Present offerings to the image daily. First perform refuge and bodhicitta. Imagine that the deity is present before you (and is one with the Three Jewels) and accepts them and blesses you with rays of light. Then dedicate the merit. Also, offer anything nice you see, hear, smell, touch, or taste during the day imagining that the deity is present before you (and is one with the Three Jewels) and accepts it and blesses you with rays of light. Also perform mantra and puja daily if you have the Empowerment. Try for one mala a day for a start.

Just my two cents.
Equanimity is the ground. Love is the moisture. Compassion is the seed. Bodhicitta is the result.

-Paraphrase of Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tsephel citing the Guhyasamaja Tantra

"All memories and thoughts are the union of emptiness and knowing, the Mind.
Without attachment, self-liberating, like a snake in a knot.
Through the qualities of meditating in that way,
Mental obscurations are purified and the dharmakaya is attained."

No one's asked why there is a lack of retreat opportunity. Is it money? Is it time? Is it health? Personally, I think you might get more targeted advice if we could diagnose your problem more exactly. That's the beauty of Vajrayang. Depending on what is causing the obstacles to spending more time in retreat you can do a practice or practices specifically for remedying that/those.

I think it is wise advice. People are rattling off names of deities and the OP could spend the next few years gathering empowerments and trying out different practices without finding any which address their obstacles.

Since we don't know what the obstacles are (inner, outer etc??) then I would look at the issue from the other end and ask wherther a Yidam is what is needed at all. There are an awful lot of meditation practices which can be beneficial and help someone attain some equanimity rather than rush into Yidam practice. Even then, the advice of a Guru who knows the person is likely to be useful in deciding which one to practice.

There are many Yidams whose practices may be directed at removing obstacles but with all due respect to the OP and those suggesting Yidams, it's like telling a bunch of people in a doctor's waiting room that you feel unwell, without being specific, and hoping that whatever treatment they are receiving might work for you too.
