Adornment Question

Post by ThreeVows »

I have heard that the silk adornments in Vajrayana iconography represent essentially wearing the sense fields as an adornment, but I have not yet heard or read a clear explanation as to what the jewel adornments or the bone adornments represent different than the silks.

Can anyone shine some light on this? Thanks.

Five silks = five senses
Eight jewelries - eight consciousnesses

Anything wrathful, take up with your Teacher.

Any of the many books on the developing stage will answer this sort of question. It's not really a big secret, although there is some variation from source to source. Also if you have a detailed guide to the sadhana you are doing, that often explains it.
