blessing chords
has anyone used a blessing chord on the ankles? would that help for energy disturbance? Or is it disrespectful to have it closer to the ground?
Re: blessing chords
Normally worn around the wrist or neck, but Drukpa Kunley apparently tied one that was given to him by Je Tsongkhapa , on his knob, so... (but that was just a humorous fictional account and should not be taken literally so...)

If you are a practitioner you do not need to wear one at all.

In fact, if one is engaged in certain practices, wearing one's mala is seen as better, and it's recommended NOT to wear cords, etc.Malcolm wrote:Tigersnest wrote:has anyone used a blessing chord on the ankles? would that help for energy disturbance? Right, if you are a chod practitioner or receiving a healing chod, you should not wear protection cords.conebeckham wrote:In fact, if one is engaged in certain practices, wearing one's mala is seen as better, and it's recommended NOT to wear cords, etc.Malcolm wrote:Tigersnest wrote:has anyone used a blessing chord on the ankles? would that help for energy disturbance? Does anybody know how this story actually emerged?Drukpa Kunley apparently tied one that was given to him by Je Tsongkhapa , on his knob
Physically, it was clearly not possible since JT was long dead before DK was born.
Some latter attempt to deride the Gelugpas, perhaps?

Yes, I understand that. And that's the reason I was wandering why they particularly chose Je Tsongkhapa for a protagonist in this story.Malcolm wrote:They are just legends, they cannot be taken literally.cyril wrote:Does anybody know how this story actually emerged?Drukpa Kunley apparently tied one that was given to him by Je Tsongkhapa , on his knob

They also picked Sapan. He makes fun of Pema Lingpa too, whom he actually studied with...cyril wrote:Yes, I understand that. Re: blessing chords
Yea, I'm really curious as well. Lama Tsering Wangdu, a famous Chod lama, gives out protection cords all the time.Tigersnest wrote:What was the reason for Chod practitioners ?
Re: blessing chords
If you are a chod practitioner, you are practicing giving your body to all nonhumans, wearing protection cords, amulets, etc., is against this idea.Tigersnest wrote:What was the reason for Chod practitioners ?

Re: blessing chords
I dont understand how it would upset them ? They feel offended if you feel you need to be safe
Re: blessing chords
Without fear or attachment, one gives away everything, body, blood, brain, head feet hands clothes money laughter tears joy anger despair hope microwaves and protection cords.Tigersnest wrote:I dont understand how it would upset them ? They feel offended if you feel you need to be safe
No holding back, nothing held on to, nectar for all.
Phenomenon, vast as space, dharmata is your base, arising and falling like ocean tide cycles, why do i cling to your illusion of unceasing changlessness?
Re: blessing chords
The ideas of safety is based on the feeling of fear, fear of personal integrity. Chod is about overcoming the fear of self-grasping to the point where one offers their own body to the beings one would normally fear and feel aversion towards.Tigersnest wrote:I dont understand how it would upset them ? They feel offended if you feel you need to be safe
Given that blessing cords may also be "charged" with energy that repulses these beings, that would essentially nullify the efficacy of the practice.
In closing: the theoretical basis of Chod is Prajnaparamita, so essentially who needs to be safe? Safe from what?
