I have come across these words in several texts (viz. Santaraksita's Tattvasangraha and Vasubandhu's Vada-Vidhi) and would like to know more about them. If textual examples are required I am happy to provide them. I would definitely like to know out of what Sanskrit words they were translated!
Unless I'm mistaken 'probans' is Latin for 'proving' or 'demonstrating.' 'Probandum' means 'what is to be proven' and 'demonstrandum,' 'what is to be demonstrated,' so perhaps 'demonstradum' (appearing in the Vada-Vidhi) and 'probandum' (appearing in the Tattvasangraha) are two translations of the same term.
Are these terms some of the members of the five-membered syllogism as discussed in the Nyaya-Sutra? That is to say,
1. Proposition ("This hill is fiery")
2. Reason ("Because it is smoky")
3. Example ("Whatever is smoky is fiery, as a kitchen")
4. Application ("'So' is this hill (smoky)")
5. Conclusion ("Therefore this hill is fiery")
Thank you for any information you can provide!!
