Lhabab Duchen

Post by Tilopa »

In the Tibetan buddhist tradition today celebrates Buddha's return from the Realm of 33 Gods after a 3 month sojourn teaching his mother who had been reborn there.

Is this also acknowledged in the Theravadin world and celebrated as an auspicious event?

Does anyone know the name of the Thai and Sri Lankan equivalents?

According to Wikipedia it is related to Vap Full Moon Poya (in Sri Lanka), Wan Ok Phansa (in Thailand), Boun Suang Huea (in Laos) and Thadingyut Festival (in Myanmar) these all seem to be the end of vassa celebrations and the decent of the Buddha from the realm of 33 gods.
