I think I posted this as a nostalgic lament about the state of
music these days.

Why is music so awful today?

There's some good stuff going on, it just doesn't seem to hit the mainstream. Try college and alternative radio stations, WXPN, KEXP, NPR TIny Desk concerts, etc,

Because as Kalacakra Tantra, for example says, that as the Kali Yuga progresses (or regresses), things will gradually become more & more degenerate; that is until reaching some critical mass of sorts.....

Most trends that you see nowadays, are symptoms of devolution.

This isn’t to say only because something is newer, that it is necessarily or inherently more degenerate. I mean I’ll take for example listening to any decent underground/independent hip-hop song (e.g. non-gangsta, non-trendy) over obnoxious Rolling Stones or jam-band nonsense any day; even though hip-hop is generally more formulated than more instrumental freestyle-oriented genres.... (with the exception of turntablism or live band style hip-hop)
