The man in the high castle series

Post by Shotenzenjin »

I'm on episode 3 first season has anyone else watched it?

your thoughts?

It is an alternative history in which fascism Nazism and Japanese imperialism win the second world war and the United States is broken apart between them.

The Nazis take the east centered in NYC. the Japanese take the west. Centered in San fran. with a free zone in the Rockies mountains separating them.

Preety impressive series so far. I havnt read the book so can't yet compare them.

I like the world building in the series and character development. having aikido in the series for the protagonist is a nice fit. And nice to see.

The actor who plays the leading SS in NYC fits the role preety good.

I also like the pace so far. Not very fast moving and it gives the atmosphere a certain heaviness like a smog. The smog of victorious fascism

It’s ok, it doesn’t remotely compare to the book though.

I personally think The Boys blows it out of the water in terms of shows examining fascism, and is a lot more fun as well.

It’s a decent show but really...plodding in places.

If you like this series, try the movie,
Dark city.

I did enjoy the first series, wasn’t bad.
My only issue with converting Phil K dick stories is that often movie makers tend to stretch out the plot and narrative and don’t really handle the novels very well.
The books and short stories are terse and often there’s a underlying sardonic black humor and anti authority subversive paranoia that gets lost in interpretation.

They interpret PKD too literal.
They miss his “spiritual” side born of addiction and free society openess.

Good stuff

Check out the first 10 minutes of this to see what I mean...

He had a vagueness about “identity” that was always uncertain and shifting.
