Welcome to the AKB Book Club

Post by Queequeg »

Having paid homage to the one who permanently destroys darkness in all,
who leads migrating beings from the morass of samsara,
and teaches the meaning just as it is,
I shall read the treatise on Abhidharma
for the purpose of attaining buddhahood
and placing all beings on that sublime stage.

(Composed by Acharya Malcolm Smith on the commencement of the AKB Book Club)

Welcome to the Abhidharmakosabhasyam Book Club.

This subforum is visible to the public as well as Registered Users of this site. Posting privileges are limited to members of the AKB Book Club. Membership in the Book Club is open to all Registered Users of the site on request to the AKB Book Club leaders, presently Jake and myself, Queequeg.*

We started the book club on June 14, 2020, and will continue until we have completed our study of the work. We hope this will be a great resource and opportunity for the participants and others who may passively follow along or stumble onto these records of discussions in the future.

Keep in mind we are approaching this study as our practice, and so let's maintain the appropriate decorum as though these discussions were carried out in the presence of the Buddha.

Let us support and encourage each other to see this through.

* We reserve the right to decline requests or revoke Book Club membership on the club leaders' discretion.
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.

Regarding discussion threads in the ABK Book Club:

Current discussions will be pinned to the top of the first page.
Older discussions will be unpinned and rise and fall with participation.

Threads should be titled as follows:

[Abbreviated Title]: [Chapter Name], Chapter [Number], Verse [Number], pp. 55-56

So Verse 1 of the Dhatu Chapter would be:

"ABK: The Dhatus, Chapter 1, Verse 1, pp. 55-56"

References to chapter names and pages will be based on Poussin's English translation.
