Life of Master Shinran

Post by hng1388 »

Dear Dharma Friends,

Those of us who have read about Master Shinran's life story, would certainly appreciate the wonderful example set by him,
in his spiritual journey of trials and tribulations, in order to receive Amida Buddha's inconceivable Gift of Shinjin in the
Primal Vow. Being a householder like him, living in this world of extreme confusion and relentless suffering, I am deeply touched
by his benevolence in writing down and transmitting to us, this marvellous Dharma of Salvation that effectively saves ordinary
foolish persons like ourselves.

The following anime (Japanese movie) with English subtitles, which gives a good account of Master Shinran's life entitled,
'Shinran Shonin - His Wish and Light', is presented in the link below, for our members who have not seen it before:

Absolutely. Shinran Shonin is my primary "Saint", for the reasons you mentioned concerning his entry into the Amida Dharma, his understanding of, and full development of Master Honen's teaching, his exile, his wide traveling, all the while supported by his living union with Amida Buddha and his embrace of the Buddha's inconceivable gift of Shinran. An illustration of how a layperson's - or anyone's - life can and should be lived according to the living reality represented by the Nembutsu in our daily experience. Thank you for this post. (And for the movie, which in my opinion, has one of the loveliest film scores on record!)
