I read Dobbins but I'm not finding anything very much on topic to your specific inquiry, and you've probably already scoured the Net to find titles, but anyway here's a little, but it's probably not what you're looking for:The Mantra Mongoose wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 10:17 pm Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone could point me to literature that could explain the historic development jodo shinshu? i know theres Jodo Shinshu in Medieval Japan by James C Dobbins is there anything elso out there worth reading? any help would be appreciated.
Very brief:

Basically a scholarly review of a book on the subject:

This might contain something:

Good luck in your search!

This topic has been on my mind.
And reading Renyo lately and looking to find language to talk about this.
While there may be different sects and lineages etc.,, they all fall under one of three categories
There is Shin ("True") Jodo Shinshu- which focuses SOLELY on the awakening of Shinjin
There is Neo-Jodo Shinshu which focused on A LOT of things, other then Shinjin...
and maybe some mixture of the two.
For me though, when looking at an organization or individual teacher, that's where I start... what their primary focus is.

Based on The Lotus Sutra, it is my conviction that each person who is reading this will INEVITABLY become a Fully Realized Buddha.
