New Hokkeko believers briefly describe their first tozan experience. Tozan is where Nichiren Shoshu believers go to the Head Temple Taisekiji, and can directly chant to the Dai-Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary of the Essential Teaching. Nichiren Shoshu members can thus fuse with the life of the True Buddha and expiate their karmic offences from the remotest past. The Dai-Gohonzon is the embodiment of the True Buddha's enlightened life, the fundamental core of the Three Great Secret Laws, and the Entity of the Law for the age of the Latter Day of the Law.
Nichiren Daishonin states in the Gosho, "The Person and the Law" ("Nanjo dono-gohenji"),
Those who visit this place can instantly expiate the offenses they have accumulated since the infinite past and transform their evils deriving from the three types of action into the three virtues.
(Gosho, p. 1569)
The spirit of the True Buddha Nichiren Daishonin dwells in the Dai-Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary of the Essential Teaching, enshrined in the Hoando at the Head Temple Taisekiji. When a common mortal chants Daimoku to the Gohonzon, with deep faith, he can attain enlightenment in his present form.
