Mettā in Zen Buddhism
Mettā in Zen Buddhism
Is the practice of Metta (Maitrī) applicable in Zen Buddhism, in addition to Zazen?
Re: Mettā in Zen Buddhism
I believe it is.
We regularly chanted the Metta Sutta at the Seon (Korean Zen) Centre events which I attended 2003-2017.

At the Korean Zen center I went to years ago, we would chant verses from Shantideva’s “Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” to end our sits.

At my Soto Zen temple, we chant both the Metta Sutta and Maylie Scott's Metta Prayer. Dogen also wrote extensively about kindness.
