Soto Practice At Home

Post by Rob_1973_Aus »

Greetings and Peace,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas to follow for my own Soto practice at home, please. I am constrained by time and family/work issues and the nearest Zendo is miles away from where I live.
Thanks to you all.
May happiness continue to follow you.
Rob.

Have you looked into online sanghas?

Hello, Matt. I hadn't considered that to be perfectly honest but I will explore that route. Thankyou for your response.
I hope you have a wonderful day, my friend.

Thankyou, my friend.
I can't afford the monthly fees at Vine but I have been looking at Sotozen and just discovered Treeleaf today. So between.those two, I'm hoping I'll find what I'm looking for.
Have beautiful day.

Treeleaf? Isn't that Jundo's group?

Aren't there groups you could visit occasionally where you are? (where are you located actually?)

To meet a teacher in real life and sit a retreat every now and then can be really really helpful.

Of course sitting with an online group can be very good too and motivate one to sit regularly.

Dosho charges $125 per hour. Still less than the plumber I paid yesterday.

Yeah that is rather a lot. I had noticed his online sangha but hadn’t paid too much attention to the fees, which are pretty hefty.

Just do it. All you need is a zafu or a seiza bench, if even that. I've seen some people just sit on the ground. Develop a deep zazen practice. You can always get references to teachers and teaching, sanghas and meetings. Soto has a web site with texts and chants. https://global.sotozen-net.or.jp/eng/index.html
