Good resources on karma?

Post by Lazy Monk »

Can anyone please recommend good books or articles about karma? Already have Karma by Kyagbon, What the Buddha Thought by Gombrich, The Truth of Rebirth by Thanissaro, Imagining Karma by Obeyesekere, The Foundations of Buddhism by Gethin, and the Tibetan book of the dead. Especially interested in discussions related to the Yogacara view.

Appreciating laziness counteracts my tendency to turn meditation into a project, viewing nibbana as a goal. Try to be mindful, in the present here and now, both during activity and inactivity.

Check out Vasubandhu's Karmasiddhiprakarana, and his chapter on karma in the Abhidharmakosha.

The Law of Karma: A Philosophical Study by Bruce Reichenbach, University of Hawaii Press, ISBN 0-8248-1352-9

This book is a little obscure but it is wonderful and one of its kind. One of the only places I've ever seen anyone treat some of the philosophical conundrums that arise from the implications of various karma theories.

Cool, written a so far unassessed PhD thesis in moral philosophy, so difficult academic texts are not a problem. Will take a look at it :)

Johannes Bronkhorst, Karma and Teleology: A problem and its solutions in Indian philosophy.
§10. Vasubandhu
§11. Early Yogācāra

I have no idea if that one is good or not, but at least it's free, lol.
