Mahāmudrā symbol

Post by whistlingb »

Hello,

My apologies for writing so out of the blue with my question as it may seem/be very unrelated to the nature of other questions on this Mahamudra forum.

That being said, I was hoping someone might be able to educate me on whether there is an actual symbol (or various symbols) for Mahamudra as there is for the Dzogchen "Thigle" symbol.

I do not hold deep knowledge re the Dzogchen symbol though do come across it often and have read up on it to an extent, especially as it pertains to the practice of Dzogchen.

I am interested to learn whether there is an accepted Mahamudra symbol and if so, what it might be.

I approach this forum with this question with complete beginner's mind.

Thank you so much.

I don't know for certain but I think a vajra or vajra and bell would be a good symbol.

The depicted symbol is not a universal Dzogchen symbol anyway.

However it is considered the shortest Prajnaparamita Sutra.

2. I support Mingyur R and HHDL in their positions against lama abuse.

Guru Chowang speaks very highly of it being a Dzogchen symbol.

  • The perfect buddhas arise from ཨ.
The ཨ is most sublime of all letters.
The ཨ can conquer all samsaric and nirvanic states.
The ཨ is like the mother giving birth to everything.
The ཨ is like the father all-creating, magical.
The ཨ is tantras of the Ati Yoga.
The ཨ is tantras of the Chiti Yoga.
The ཨ is also truly known as Yangti.
Arising from within, the ཨ is nonarising.
The ཨ is ultimate of every utterance.
    Self-existing, ཨ transcends everything.
Knowing one, the ཨ can liberate in everything.
Everything without exception is perfected in the ཨ.
Nothing in itself, the self-existing ཨ appears in every way.
Samsara, nirvana and the path are all mastered in the ཨ.

It is also the seed syllable for Buddha Sakyamuni. ;)

Short, clear, simple answer: no.

Individuals may have particular practices, of course, and may use seed syllables or OM AH HUM etc. etc.. But basically there just isn't such a thing.
All best wishes
