Where is your Avatar from? The cool mushroom man? He seems very peaceful and I find myself thinking about His mystery.

This is Gokō Shii Amida 五刧思惟阿弥陀 (aka Hōzō Bosatsu). and this statue is located outside of konkai komyoji temple in Kyoto Japan.Könchok Chödrak wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:32 pm Where is your Avatar from? The cool mushroom man? He seems very peaceful and I find myself thinking about His mystery.
Here are the original pics I took https://photos.app.goo.gl/s8eW3BbkhGtCHW118
We normally go back to Japan each year to see family but were unable last year and are not sure we can this year. But if you do get a chance to visit Kyoto you can see this statue just outside the cemetery.
Goko = Five Kalpas (a very very very very very long time)
Shii = to meditate or contemplate
The Afro is to demonstrate that a long time has passed. Long enough to allow for the hair to grow so long.
Bodhisattva Dharmakara contemplated the vows for five kalpas.
Five Kalpas of reflection. Wow.. just wow!
I can't sit for more than five hours!
Thanks for showing interest. I really like this image and use it quite a lot. Feel free to use the photos in google photo link.
Keep happy and healthy

That's an interesting and unique depiction of Amida Buddha! I haven't seen the kalpas of contemplation of the Vows represented by long hair before, very cool Thanks for sharing.
