Re: how to know the cause of a certain causes effect in life
I think you would need a high level of realization to know for sure. Luckily, it is not necessary to know the cause specifically in order to purify it.

Re: Doubts
You can always visualize Padmasambhava as your teacher, and/or say the vajra guru mantra, especially if you feel a connection to the Nyingma school.

Re: which pure land do you seek?
Amitabha Buddha is the Lord of the Western Pure Land, and Bhaisayaguru is the Lord of the Eastern Pure Land. My question is why the Western Pure Land is seen as a more desireable option, as Bhaisayaguru (Medicine Buddha) also made powerful vows for the benefit of sentient beings. I was taught that ...

Re: 10th Tantric Vow
Sorry, the wording is confusing, and I made a mistake. This is not a list of vows, this is a list of the 14 root downfalls. It is a root downfall "to have compassion for evil beings especially those who harm the doctrine." Meaning, a tantric yogi should not behave lovingly towards these be...

10th Tantric Vow
The 10th Tantric vow is "to have compassion for evil beings especially those who harm the doctrine" (http://www.nyingma.com/artman/publish/n ... ents.shtml)
In Chod, don't we specifically make offerings to these beings? How is this not a violation of that vow?

Re: The ego and self-esteem
But my question: is this due to me progressing on the path, or because of my low self-esteem that keeps me from achieving worldly success? I don't know, but I suspect it is most likely a combination of both. The fact that you are even asking the question is a very good sign, IMO. Keep watching. . .

Of course.Motova wrote:Ok so do I have to buy the new book? Or can I use the old one and just not practice the pranayama for each series?
Also, the dvd's are for public consumption, and they contain the basic movements in series 1-5, so it must be that they can be done without transmission.

Re: mental illness and Buddhism
My issue is that he was claiming that you can overcome (clinical) depression by studying the dharma. Considering that clinical depression is a chemical and/or hormonal imbalance, I am confused as to why this can be overcome by studying the dharma, but, let's say, schizophrenia cannot. I understand ...

Since DW is changing the structure of the site anyway, I wanted to make a further suggestion. It seems to me that classifying various schools based on recent geographical origin ("Tibetan Buddhism" and "East Asian Buddhism") is less relevant/accurate than classifying based on the...

just imagine that each prostration or mantra recitation is the last thing that you will ever do in this life. That attitude helps me when I start to fixate on numbers.

For these reasons I'm assuming, once I'm finished, that most Lamas will expect me to accumulate a "normal" size Ngondro (which, by the way, I do want to do! In fact I wish I'd started with one!). That said...basically...I feel discouraged in the process of accumulating this one This isn't...

You know, there are so many ways the dharma can be taught. Some of them appear to present reality in ...
