Re: Historicity of the Lotus Sutra

well thank you for your input, it seems Donald is not really a Buddhist and yet is considered a scholar. Donald Lopez Jr is a practicing Tibetan Buddhist. I'm not sure about the quality of translations, but a scholar is "A specialist in a particular branch of study, especially the humanities&q...

Re: Buddha Nature appearing as...

Buddha Nature (the absolute, the primordial reality, paramarthasatya) appears as the innumerable dharmas. . So you are saying the very laws from which all is governed by and produced by is none other than Buddha Nature. when you say "appears as" ..is this not just another way of saying wa...

Re: Historicity of the Lotus Sutra

well thank you for your input, it seems Donald is not really a Buddhist and yet is considered a scholar. I am a believer and for some scholars that makes me brainwashed or something. I have been to Salt Lake City and took the tour, got the book of mormon ,and was confused over the the whole Mark tha...

Re: Historicity of the Lotus Sutra

I already had it out with one entry from this "The Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism" and gave my opinion in several posts here I found that the use of the wording.. from here This really annoyed me "that enables him to undertake the arduous training, over not one, but three, incalcula...

Re: Buddhahood in one lifetime

This thread moved on from the question of precepts, but I was digging around on the 3 Secret Laws and found some interesting conversation on the topic of precepts related to Nichiren. http://ichinensanzen.ca/the-three-great-secret-laws/#secretLawsSources which seems somewhat SGI biased at least wrt...

Re: Buddhahood in one lifetime

Rather than chanting the Daimoku, the Lotus Sutra itself recommends that we recite the name of Avalokitesvara to subdue the Three Poisons which are an impediment to enlightenment: If there should be living beings beset by numerous lusts and cravings, let them think with constant reverence of Bodhis...

Re: Sogyal Rinpoche - sexual abuse against women?

Do you have an agenda too? No agenda on my part, just trying to understand whether a statement like, "Females get it from males, usually not the other way around. I.e. bisexual males spread it to females," has any factual basis at all. It turns out that, if my reading of the US data is co...

Re: Shiva

Both Brahama and Indra are inscribed on Nichiren Shonin's Gohonzon/mandalas. Just two of many protectors and functions innate in all . In our tradition these qualities are present in all sentients and by chanting the Odaimoku ,Nam Myoho renge Kyo ,in front of and with this Gohonzon these qualities i...

And Buddha stroked our heads three times

Chances are if you practice this Lotus Buddhism ,in any of the sects , for a period of steady time, you were there at Vulture Peak and had your head stroked three times by Lord Sakyamuni Buddha.

Take comfort friends..

Re: Nichiren vs Tientai or Nichiren originality

We live in a world of abbreviations. I hate the way people speak now a day. I listen to the way people speak and I hate it. my grand kids actually say Be right back , or lol... too much info....it's a nightmare... people thought the art of writing had returned when email arrived...it was a gigantic...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

How is this then (my last attempt to get you to understand what is being said here): All conditioned phenomena are an illusion as they have no independent/objective existence outside of their causes and conditions (which in turn have no independent...) ad nauseum. Even reductionist scientific mater...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

Im not sure what all the fuss about illusion is. Diamond Sutra: “ So I say to you – This is how to contemplate our conditioned existence in this fleeting world: Like a tiny drop of dew, or a bubble floating in a stream; Like a flash of lightning in a summer cloud, Or a flickering lamp, an illusion,...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

?.. all is illusion. ;) If you say so. I don't say so, a few thousand years of Buddhist philosophy says so. read the peace by His Holiness The 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje The first line is to excuse people from exclaiming it's ALL illusion. The two truths free from the extremes of realism an...

This may be pertinent to the discussion:".... The use of words to point to it is exactly what i am on about... ...it proves it is important not to be one sided.. we need to view both sides at the same time to get what they point to That's not my take-away from the Aspiration at all... But I'm ...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

And you just miserably failed the Middle Way approach by offering the third view of "is and not is" as ultimate truth. Well done. I'm sure this third view line has been lying around in your basket just waiting to be typed. it's of no use unless it actually is directed to what the author i...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

the only thing that is proven here by your take on "Things" is the complete absence of the middle way . Trying to prove it is "ALL" an illusion is harsh and distracting, and misses what it actually is...Both reality and an illusion at the same time...or for convention sake it is...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

I see, I was possibly misunderstanding what the debate was in the first place. I think we're somewhat talking past each other, but I get what you're saying. I'm just curious, would you consider the laws of physics absolute? Given that "laws" of physics change (ie new "laws" come...
