Re: Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra: "Until we come to..."

Wouldn't extreme attachment to "levels of wisdom" and "levels of realizations", make one seem arrogant / excessively prideful? Such as selfishly feeding of the ego by deriding others as dumber/stupider/wrong, without any proper explanations or noble purposes, but only for the sak...

Re: Is Avici hell eternal?

No, don't forget at the exhaustion of a Kalpa the three lower realms, and then the higher form realms dissolve. One place this is discussed is in Kangyur Rinpoche's commentary on Jigme Linpa's text Treasury Of Precious Qualities, volume 1 Can we think of anything else that dissolves from the bottom...

Re: Unconditioned existence vs pureland vows as condition - contradiction?

The purelands are training grounds for progressing further towards Buddhahood. Mahayana has 'non abiding nirvana'. This means samsara isn't rejected since it's where Buddha and Bodhisattva activities appear to occur. It sounds like you're conflating that with the cessation nirvana of the shravakas....

Re: On the Noble Eightfold Path

Looks like your main question in your post is concerning what is "good". I think one possible key way to see through "good" is that different people have different ideas about what is "good that may contradict each other. Example: some think passionate love is good, other th...

Re: Unconditioned existence vs pureland vows as condition - contradiction?

Additional reading that I think may serve as hints to solving this contradiction puzzle: http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/pureland.pdf Q: All phenomena are by nature empty, always unborn [Non-Birth], equal and still. Are we not going against this truth when we abandon this world, seeking rebirth in...

Unconditioned existence vs pureland vows as condition - contradiction?

I was thinking about some Buddhists topics that lead to contradiction , that seems to be impossible to be solved by logic / conventional wisdom alone: 1. Nirvana, one of the most sought out goal in many schools of Buddhisms, leads to UNCONDITIONED existence. 2. The VOWS that make the properties of a...

All people tell lies unless he or she is mute, such as saying small white lies, saying things that are not accurate to realities whether intentionally or not, changing decisions after words were said, etc. Very common is time: can you very make sure you can say the exact current time if being asked...

Re: My explanation of emptiness

Belief - from my perspective - means imputing truth to the object believed in. So I don't say that from belief. Maybe 'faith in the appropriate linguistic expression' does apply. Truth cannot be experienced because it is a formation of ignorance. So experiencing truth is experiencing ignorance. Hmm...

Re: My explanation of emptiness

You cannot seriously doubt whether the atoms that make up the porridge you eat exist before your consumption of the porridge or not. It is not even "faith", it is considered to be a fact, normally. And still buddhist masters have declared matter or its particles to be without true existen...

Re: Which heavens correspond

One of the points of Christian heaven and Christian hell is that they are eternal and you go there forever. Leaving aside the moral issue of why a loving God sentences beings to infinite hell for de facto finite crimes, there is the central issue of the lifespan of the person and the immortality of...

Re: Dedicating Your Suffering

Many schools Buddhisms places an emphasis on the 4 noble truth: resulting in the total elimination of all sufferings. Suffering is not to be cherished at all, but rather all sufferings/dukkhas will be overcome inevitably and eventually eliminated, that is the truth of impermanence. Suffering state i...

Most misunderstood sūtra ever. This is not a charter for free inquiry at all. If there is no free inquiry, then there are no path to real personal understandings in this conventional world, and it will become pointless to chase any knowledge/solutions/enlightenment - only forced tyranny shall exist...
