Re: Buddhism, Social Equity, and odd interpretations of karma
No, it is not strange. It's called being a grown up. No one married her but me. My mistake, my karma. It's called "accepting to consequences of one's actions." It is also called being a man. But these days, there are simpering fools who think they can just appropriate the language of the ...

Re: Buddhism, Social Equity, and odd interpretations of karma
You know better than they do? Do you have firsthand experience of what it is like to go through a divorce in the west as they have? Yup, was taken to the cleaners too. But I am a man, not a child. So you know what? I don't complain because I am old school, not like these modern whiny man-babies of ...

Re: Buddhism, Social Equity, and odd interpretations of karma
Sorry, I think these guys are a bunch of [insert favorite Bill Maher insult here]. I have zero sympathy for them. Why shouldn't they be worthy of any sympathy? If they were actually suffering from some real oppression, then I would have sympathy for them. But since they are behaving like hysterical...

Re: Buddhism, Social Equity, and odd interpretations of karma
No different than being a black man or a latino man. Men have zero access to social services apart from food stamps. It is not a white man thing, it is a man thing. Also if you are a women, it is the same, unless you have young kids. Of course, the amount of money spent on social services such as w...

Re: Buddhism, Social Equity, and odd interpretations of karma
Some folks who believe in bs like "white privilege" would also agree that those who are born white have much better karma than those born with a darker skin pigmentation. It is kind of like the Hindu caste system which the Buddha completely rejected.

Re: What can Buddhas do and not do?
I kind of see it like this. Say I was in hell, and I had this moment of opportunity where I cry out for forgiveness and help, or...whatever. And say a Buddha wasn't there? That they had gone on into permanent nirvana? That would be a sad thing. Even if they were there they wouldn't be able to help ...

Re: anti-intellectualism
Maybe it has nothing to do with envy, but more to do with a distrust for crooks? :jawdrop: Nah, that's not it. If it was a distrust for crooks they wouldn't have voted for Trump, coz he is currently under investigation for thievery too... Most of it are BS allegations. Hillary on the other hand is ...

Re: anti-intellectualism
why do Americans often dislike the smart ones? listen: No one likes being reminded of his or her own stupidity. Nothing says "I'm smarter than you" than being, in fact, smarter--and even more, having earned an academic credential documenting it. In an egalitarian milieu, and to insecure a...

Re: Namo Amitabha Buddha
Yes the oldest Pure Land writings are in a Gandhari prakrit and the thinking is that Pure Land emerged from Central Asia, so Sanskrit is just one among many languages to chant in, but not the 'original' by any means. My first teacher, a very kind Pure Land monk taught me to chant "Namu Amida B...

Re: Namo Amitabha Buddha
Is it not better to recite in the original sanskrit as written in the sutras rather than Namu Amida Butsu or Namo Amituofo? Well, if you're interested, you could try reciting Namu Amida Butsu for one month and then the original sanskrit for another month. You could tell us your result. I've done bo...
