I just thought the video wasn’t getting enough attention, so I did some name dropping to get more views. Re: Documentary about Samye Ling
Samye Ling also owns an entire island off of Scotland called “Holy Isle”. Here’s a 17 minute video and drone tour of the island.

Re: Current status of Rumtek.
Thanks Cone.
I personally don’t care about Rumtek per se. All I care about is the Vajra Crown. And I don’t have a whole lot of confidence about either its location or if it even still exists.

Re: Current status of Rumtek.
The court awarded control of Rumtek to the organization that was controlled by Shamar, originally setup by the 16th. This does not bar OTD followers from Rumtek, they just don’t control it. …and has the Black Hat been accounted for? There’s all kinds of priceless relics at Rumtek, but that one defi...

Re: Current status of Rumtek.
Did it happen after O.T. got his Dominican passport? I’d read that the Indian government was very unhappy with him for doing that.
Also, any sightings of the Black Hat?

Current status of Rumtek.
I stumbled upon this website that purports to have been a livestream of Thaye Dorje from Rumtek last month.

Has there been a change in the status of Rumtek?
Thanks.

The phrase “enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings” does not mean that a Buddha must be physically present. However it is helpful in many ways if he is.

1/19/22 Buddha Nature discussion
Here’s an event with an expert in his field: he’s a lharampa geshe, with a B.A. in philosophy, a PhD. In religious studies. and is sometimes a translator for HHDL. (I’d hate to see his student loan balance.) Anyway it’s free and it will probably touch on issues that have been discussed here. *******...

Re: Is there an atman in your school? (Shentong)
Gzhan stong is not the view of Nagarjuna. There was neither a "gzhan stong" nor "rang stong" for Shankara to take inspiration from in 8th century India. But even if there were, how does that relate to what I posited? I am simply saying that it is understandable that Advaita Veda...

Re: Is there an atman in your school? (Shentong)
If Shankara took inspiration from Nagarjuna, it wasn’t Shentong. Nagarjuna’s philosophy wasn’t Shentong in the least. I think it safe to say that Nagarjuna would probably have thought Shentong was both erroneous and heretical.Anders wrote:…given how much inspiration Shankara took from nagarjuna.

Re: What is the Orthodox position of your school on alcohol, narcotics, psychedelics?
Morphine is an important medicine. It can also destroy lives. Even when there’s benefit, such as pain relief, care must be taken to avoid disaster. When there’s no actual benefit, such as recreational use, the downside risk is unwarranted. I’ve been on the periphery of a couple heavily psychedelic e...

As a former addict I can say from personal experience that regular use of recreational drugs increases the intensity of the defilements. That’s the opposite of what Dharma is all about.

Re: What is the Orthodox position of your school on alcohol, narcotics, psychedelics?
All of those breaks the precepts, in every school of Buddhism. This is true of course. Why would psychedelics be any different? When the precepts were made alcohol was the only intoxicant available. Thus the wording of “not so even as much as a dewdrop on a single blade of grass”. If you did a dewd...

That’s one popular position. Another popular position is that any intoxicant that brings about reckless action is forbidden.
So ask your preceptor.
