Re: Ganteng Rinpoche Vancouver/Victora B.C. May 10-15

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this.

For the Chod it will be "The Bellowing Laugh of the Dakini" by Rigdzin Lingpa and for Dorje Phagmo it is a Pema Lingpa Terma.

Re: Fo Guang Shan University questions.

While I don't know all the details, I think that if Ven. Hsing Yun has disagreements with the Tibetan interpretation of Buddhism he may not be entirely out of step with other Chinese masters. It's really not a big deal I don't think as those disagreements have long existed between the various Buddhi...

Re: Surangama Sutra as an anti-Dzogchen intervention

Don't be ridiculous. The only that not accepted here is gyalpo practice. The Lotus Sutra is a Mahayana Sutra whereas the view I'm explaining comes from Highest Yoga Tantra. I thought were are not allowed to discuss gyalpo practice? A geshe once me told the highest teaching was in the Lotus Sutra. H...

Re: Surangama Sutra as an anti-Dzogchen intervention

the very title of this thread is loathe some in this degenerative age. Nah. Different Buddhists and Buddhist schools have been debating each other's faces off for millennia. We'll be fine. Which reminds me: how do you feel about Nichiren's use of polemic and hyperbole in his public discourses? I te...

I have not had this experience in my interactions with Ch'an groups. They very much believe in the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

Longchenpa fathered a son as a monk

I was reading over a biography of Longchenpa today and learned that he fathered a son while holding a monks precepts. I realize this is probably not the first or last instance in which this happened, but I'm wondering what the lineage reasoning is behind this? Did he break his vows, if not why? Does...

Re: Padmasambhava in Translation

There is nothing wrong in principle with the 84000 project. What I object to is the idea that the literary products of Tibetan buddhas is inferior in quality and kind to that of Indian buddhas. It is similar to the tale of Padampa Sangye and Milarepa's meeting. While equal in realization, Mila's bl...

Re: Adi-Buddha on Wikipedia

Thank you, Victoria. Is it correct now? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adi-Buddha In Vajrayana Buddhism, the ādibuddha (Tibetan: dang-po'i sangs-rgyas), is the "First Buddha." The term reemerges in tantric literature, most prominently in the Kalachakra.[1] According to the first interpreta...

Re: Question about Kuji in/Mudra?

Just a note -- If the OP is interested in Korean Seon and in Korea, the OP can easily just visit a temple. At big temples living quarters and the main meditation hall, especially during the long retreats or when being used by the monks, are closed to casual visitors unless they are invited. This is...

It's the old four proposition formula. There are: White deeds with white intentions. White deeds with black intentions. Black deeds with white intentions. Black deeds with black intentions. Intentions do flavor the act. There is a tradition of Bodhisattva Vows that require you to commit one of the ...

Honestly-do people like Pema Khandro/Kali Ma/ whatever-her-given-name-is think they won't be eventually exposed? I have never understood how people can set themselves up this way, with titles, lineage claims, even links to websites for their "teachers" that are actually under the student/...

Based solely on what was said in the interview: Zen sounds like "believe what you want" and "as long as you sit you do Zen". This attitude is widespread in American Zen, and maybe American Buddhism generally. I goes with the pragmatic streak in the American character: "Teac...
