Re: Energy Wasted
has happened many times... The shy little boy who lives locked up in his room chooses almost by command of his own adolescence the path of the mystical outbreak. It is very common between the ages of 15 and 20. They rarely work or study hard, they have a lot of free time. And now he has a laptop, a...

Re: Farmer develops method to get rid of bugs harmlessly
Having been gardening for around a decade, I've found a few ways that work fairly well. There are a few bugs that won't stay away no matter what you do. Tomato hook worms. Little bastards can eat an entire plant overnight. Those and Melon Aphids (Super hard to get rid of, they lay eggs in the soil a...

Re: VR churches, anyone?
For anyone curious about the plans and intentions for this, Zuckerberg just did a rare long-form interview that spends a fair bit of time on the metaverse https://youtu.be/5zOHSysMmH0 The interviewer isn’t aggressive, but also isn’t completely soft. Asks some questions about impact of social media ...

Re: Exists doesnt Exist?
It's a basic teaching on emptiness. The purpose is to conceptually describe the emptiness of reality. It's fundamentally saying none of these ideas apply. It's beyond our ability to conceptualize. Thus we can't really hold conventional ideas about it.

Re: This One Mind is You
The Buddha thought otherwise. Jesse, What is it that the Buddha thought otherwise? And can you point to what the Buddha said? But the “only the seen”, “only the heard”, etc. appears uniquely and cannot be shared. This is a description of Emptiness. You said it can't be shared, and appears uniquely....

Re: This One Mind is You
When who gains direct experience of reality? Without switching back and fourth between the two truths it becomes impossible to write sentences about it. From the Diamond Sutra: “All living beings, whether born from eggs, from the womb, from moisture, or spontaneously; whether they have form or do n...

Re: VR churches, anyone?
I can see VR meetups being quite effective actually. A simple dharma meetup in VR wouldn't be such a bad idea. I pre-ordered the first Oculus Rift, and beta tested one of the "Meetup" apps.. In real life I tend to experience anxiety being around other people.. the strangest thing happened ...

Re: This One Mind is You
Johnny, Since we agree that there is no independent, inherently existing self, I agree that “private” is a clumsy word. But just as we associate karma with individual beings, our experiences are associated with us and no one else; i.e., they’re private. P.S: Although I know a few Zen teachers who t...

Re: This One Mind is You
Have you ever directly experienced another’s experience? I have attempted to explain that when one gains direct experience of reality idea's like mine and other are seen in their proper context. You can't experience another persons reality anymore than you can experience your own reality. Mine and ...

Re: This One Mind is You
Again, this isn’t about an imagined self. It’s about your experience - what you perceive, what you feel, what you think. These experiences are private. No one can perceive what you perceive, feel what you feel, or think what you think. We use words and concepts to share our private experiences, but...

Re: This One Mind is You
According to this theory, any phenomenon exists only as part of the total nexus of reality, its existence depends on the total network of all other things, which are all equally connected to each other and contained in each other.[24] This theory does not go beyond the kāraṇa hetu theory of the Sar...

Re: This One Mind is You
I made the assertion that these delineations are imagined. Not non-existent, or existent. So imagined things are existent or nonexistent? You followed up your statement by claiming interconnectedness. I merely pointed out that connections require delineations, and moreover, separation, otherwise it...

Re: This One Mind is You
In order for there to be a connection, there must be a boundary or delineation between one thing and another thing, otherwise the word “connection” has no meaning. But if, as you say, there are no boundaries or delineations, this means there are also no connections., much less “interconnection.” So...

Re: This One Mind is You
Interconnection very much describes the actual state of reality, suchness. In order for there to be a connection, there must be a boundary or delineation between one thing and another thing, otherwise the word “connection” has no meaning. But if, as you say, there are no boundaries or delineations,...

Re: This One Mind is You
how is that our minds have private, personal experiences? Doesn’t this point to separateness, a “you” and a “me”? All objects of perception appear to be separate, but through their Empty nature, and interconnectedness they are very much connected to each other. Jesse, Thank you, but I think you mis...

Re: Can you conceive of a scenario where it turns out Nagarjuna was wrong (ex: not all things are empty, or otherwise)?
Nagarjuna's defects are pointed out by many as well. Buddhism is a religion. None of these figures truly proved anything to the secular world. If they had, the path of modern philosophy would have stopped once it met with their teachings. However, the actual situation is quite the opposite, Nagarju...

Re: Hoarse voice from chanting
Just do the mantras in your head until your voice comes back, there isn't a fundamental difference imo.
