Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Power corrupts... Power is intoxicating and the closer one gets to it the more one will do to attain and keep it. If you want to find religious traditions that didn't engage in violence, just look for one without political power or the chance to get political power. Gelugpas have been the most power...

Marpa lineage picture
Hello, I'm looking for a line drawing of Marpa surrounded by other lineage lamas to use in a prayer booklet. The picture i want is a line drawing version of the picture I attach below. I've seen it on the internet but only in quite low definition and with names written over the picture. Can somebody...

Re: Words of My Perfect Teacher
WOMPT is written in an easy colloquial style, apparently. Also, Padmakara Translations are always very readable, even if this is at the expense of accuracy of the translation.
Great Gate is also pretty basic and readable, if I remember correctly.

Re: Words of My Perfect Teacher
WOMPT is great. It is commentary on LN ngondro but is general enough to provide plenty of useful advice to anyone. You could also try Light of Wisdom, Jamgon Kongtrul's commentary on Chokgyur Lingpa's Lamrim Yeshe Nyingpo http://www.wisdom-books.com/ProductDetail.asp?PID=22157 It is in 2 volumes (or...

Re: Vajrayana in China
Might be best to avoid posting links to phayul.com. Chinese government paranoia and aggression ensures the website is riddled with viruses and assorted malware. All monasteries in Tibet now have permanent Chinese government officials on site to ensure everyone's behaving themselves and not inciting ...

Re: Rajapadanam sasanam- the king is the first donor
My country Australia is a very peaceful place & although there are a number of reasons for this the seperation of religion & government is a very important reason for this. Your head of state is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith, maybe that's one reason your co...

Re: Dorje Phurba/ Vajrakilaya
Lots of information and links have been posted already. I thought I'd add links to the books I know of. Given its widespread practice there is quite a lot written about Vajrakilaya including commentaries on the practice such as The Practice of Vajrakilaya by Khenpo Namdrol Rinpoche. Martin Boord's b...

Re: Banning of Tulkus in History
The regent Reting Rinpoche was a student of Kyabje Chatral Sangye Dorje. Chatral Rinpoche used to have to sneak into the Potala so those gyalpo people couldn't get to him. HH Dalai Lama also wanted dzogchen teachings from Chatral Rinpoche, his teacher's teacher but I don't think that's happened. Any...

Re: Vajrasattva purification practice
I imagine some kind of empowerment should be given before doing Vajrasattva as the practice is for purifying samaya and if you've had no empowerment there's no samaya to purify. that said, you can find out more, including a practice that apparently doesn't require empowerment here: http://prayer4pea...

Yes, but today it seems he will give the "Khadroi Gadgyang”, he already transmitted his own chöd practice the last two days. /magnus Cool. A great opportunity for everyone able to watch/listen in. I understand there is no specific wang for the khando'i gejung so it would be interesting to see what ...

Re: Entry into gcod
Thanks again for your comments. Yudron, I'm glad it doesn't matter that I'm tone deaf. I also have pretty bad coordination too, so I hope it doesn't matter if I play the drum and bell like I'm drunk. Pemachopel, I intend to make every effort to attend Tsewong Rinpoche's teachings in London next year...

Thanks for your replies. Terma, I am interested in Lama Jinpa's programme, maybe not taking the full course but at least getting the information I need to practice more correctly. Unfortunately, my current circumstances (small child, moving house next week, etc.) really don't allow even taking one m...

Re: Entry into gcod
Thanks for your reply, Chris. Without going into too much detail, it was my lama who, if I understood correctly, mentioned the commitment of undertaking the 108 day practice on receipt of the empowerment. Maybe he just didn't want to give me this empowerment, though he was happy to give me the lung,...

Re: Entry into gcod
Thanks Yudron. I have a couple of Tersar Throma texts given to me by the group of the lama that gave the empowerment. These are a very short offering of the body, much like the Kusali Tsok in the LN ngondro. I'm not sure if it is "the concise feast" that you mention but it doesn't have everything in...
