Re: bit of confusion - 5 colors

I think, as tantra developed and the Vajra family became more important, Akshobya or other vajra family heruka went to the centre of the mandala and became white. I'm sure this is how Snellgrove explained it, anyway. I think he also says Vajrayana only became a term for secret mantra once the vajra ...

Re: Smoking tobacco

I think Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje, who intaroduced Patrul Rinpoche to the nature of his mind, smoked. Chogyam Thrungpa smoked whilst translating his terma into English smoked, according to the account I read. Some Nyingma lamas and tertons do smoke.

Re: Guru, Yidam, Dakini

There has been discussion on this elsewhere. I think in LN, lama practice is emphasized with outer, inner, secret and most secret versions. Generally, as far as I know, Palchen Dupa is the common LN yidam, or any associated practice (Hayagriva, Vajrakilaya, Shinje or Yangdak.) Dakini practice (Deche...

Re: Trapped in an elevator with Chatral Rinpoche

I'd ask him if he had any mo-mo's and chang with him because you never know how long you will be trapped. Okay, you say ten minutes, but by the time somebody notices something is wrong, calls the repair company... I'm pretty sure Chatral Rinpoche doesn't eat momos. Not sure he drinks chang either. ...

Re: Longchen Nyingtig Images of Vajravarahi

You're welcome, Pema. One of my lamas said it doesn't matter, another said to definitely follow Patrul Rinpoche's commentary, so I did that. The pictures on himalayan art are great, especially the one that shows all the deities as visualised in the Dechen Gyalmo sadhana, but their stances are more d...

Re: Longchen Nyingtig Images of Vajravarahi

That's interesting. My teacher has always been sort of casual and dismissive of which one to use, giving different tsakli and instructions on different occasions. Does anybody know which is used when? Which what is used when? Different Vajrayogini visualisations in LN ngondro Guru Yoga? Depends on ...

Re: Longchen Nyingtig Images of Vajravarahi

I think there are two traditions of visualisation for the Guru Yoga used in the Longchen Nyingthig ngondro (it's actually the outer LN Guru Yoga and separate from the LN ngondro text, but...) One has Vajrayogini (she is named as such (Dorje Naljorma) in the text) with curved knife in right hand and ...

Re: Burning sang offerings

In my experience, for sang, powdered incense, gugul, etc. chemical free bamboo charcoal is the best.

I've found those other charcoal disks smell bad, are difficult to light, and give off too much smoke.

Re: Incarnations of Patrul Rinpoche

I vaguely recall, though I'm not sure where from, that either Jigme Gyalwai Nyugu or Patrul Rinpoche said they would always be reborn as Khenpo or abbot of Dzagyal gompa in Dzachuka. I think Khenpo Choechok Rinpoche may have been Dzagyal Khenpo when he was recognized. I knew him from when I was in T...

Re: Structuring Practice Days

Why not focus on one practice and go deeper and deeper into that? Sorry for seemingly ignoring this post, but I have to completely agree with the crux of your point. Under all this, I am focused on a key practice. I think what you say is actually really important. I was just thinking about myself. ...

Thanks.

possibly wangs in the morning and lungs of all LN in the afternoon. That's what it was last time I attended LN wangchen.

You can always get lungs the same time to get the khrid before you practice the sadhanas

Re: Entire Cycle of Longchen Nyingthig Treasures in Finland

I am thinking of going to this amazing event. Though, I'm not sure how much they said it would cost. How many other people are going? The website says the "tuition fee" is €475. It could work out quite expensive if you include getting to and staying in Finland. Too much for me. I rejoice in the mer...
